Watch spotting at the royal wedding

Did you guys managed to spot something interesting? I think Mike Tindall is wearing a black face Daytona. And prince William has his midsized Seamaster, but other than that I could not see anything.

Phil is wearing a genuine vintage Sandoz.

I love that William sticks with that Seamaster - he could have virtually anything he wanted, but sticks with the one his mother got him.

Haha - was wondering what he had on when I saw his mug. Presumed one of his Pateks or Rolex unless contractually obligated to wear a tudor

He will probably be wearing his Explorer, as he will need it tonight for when he goes Spelunking in Meghan’s cave.

There'll be a bloke wearing a Damasko DA37 carousing around the taverns of Durham City shortly. If you see him be sure to buy him a pint . . .

The Vicar (or whatever he was) who did the ceremony was wearing a Rolex, old datejust maybe.

Saw some old chap in the area near the ceremony with an older Submariner on.

The wedding was pretty formal ceremony, we agree no? Plenty people were wearing sports watches on metal bracelet. Who said that on formal occasions you are supposed to wear a dress watch on leather strap?

As best I can tell, there were some very well-dressed gents wearing entirely wrong 'sports' watches. It isn't a good look.

Do you include Mike Tindalls Daytona in this ? I thought it looked pretty good for the occasion, if a little small.

Not true - he’s on the list at a dozen AD’s for a SS Sports Rolex.

He’s apparently been told he’s still 18 months away and the rotters are keeping his warranty card!

I wouldn't wear a Daytona to a wedding; you might as well wear a zip-up leather jacket. A simple , slim, three-handed would do the job far better. A sports watch just catches the eye in the wrong way.

Disagree with that one Pete, a Daytona looks just fine. In fact I think they look even better with a sharp suit.

At a Royal Wedding? It's not exactly Goodwood. I wouldn't wear a watch with a metal bracelet to a posh , formal event.
Although, come to think of it, I never get invited. So it's academic.

It’s just snobbery. If it’s good enough for Mike Tindall it’s good enough for me.

HRH Prince of Wales wore a chronograph. That’s the thing about rules; you have to know when they cease to apply.

Seems need for a dress watch is just in the minds of people here.

Posh people at a posh event don’t care.

It's not about rules....it's about taste. Something like a Daytona looks crap with formal wear. Just shiny and intrusive. Anything with a shiny, heavy bracelet looks out of place. That's why you don't wear it. Nothing to do with rules. It's obtrusive jewellery in a setting where that doesn't 'work.'
And all the talk about Harry ignores the fact that he was wearing military uniform, not a suit.
I think you'l find the women had more sense, and didn't wear the chunky watches many of them own. They have more visual awareness.

    George Clooney

I believe George Clooney attended. Any sign of a Tresor? He is a classy guy so could probably carry off a Speedmaster, but I just hope he brought his own wedding watch out for the occasion.

He seemed to be wearing a simple watch with a leather strap, as best I could tell. But, on the sartorial front, he might have been the only man there without a waistcoat. But then his wife was the star ....

He is a seriously cool guy. And smart enough to realise that days like this are not about him, and more for the ladies attending, at all levels.

Slight diversion..... Were you invited, what would you wear?

I think I'd wear my 37mm quartz Grand Seiko on it's leather.

From what I've seen it's only the hoi polloi that actually worry about such things. The toffs and well off types tend to wear just what they please and not worry about it.
