If we are considering only 114270s then no, not that I can think of.

Is there an appreciable difference between the various series? Also, would any particular series be more desirable/expensive than others if all other aspects are equal? ie: condition, provenance etc. Thanks

As there are 10 years between the first and last 114270, I suppose a later example will have less worn parts at the microscopic level than an earlier model even if they've both been recently serviced and treated the same?
One notable difference with the 14270 is that some of these had tritium dials, so if people really want that patina look then that could command a premium. Also, some have lug holes too.
SEL/Lug Holes/Rehaut pick your poison, I think last rehaut series are most valueable But tritium craze made even previously least desireable climb
The only difference I noticed was that the 14270 bracelet had folded end links, while the 114270 bracelet had solid end links. I was never in a position to do a side by side comparison though.

Early 114270 didn’t have the engraved rehault which I prefer.
Yes, there are all these variations but I would say there are buyers equally for each, such that prices do not vary much.
The 114270 has a Cal.3130 movement, were as the 14270 has a Cal. 3000.
Also the 114270 has a better bracelet.
Was there ever a difference on the paint fill of the Arabic numbers? In photos they sometimes look thicker than others... maybe it was a difference between the 114270 and the 14270? But could just be a trick of the light.
Really? I already have a 34mm Date and that is easy to read

Given the additional thickness of the case on a 40mm sports watch such as a modern GMT, how much bigger is the actual dial on such a watch, versus a 36mm model without the big bezel?

I assume you mean width of the bezel rather than thickness of the case?
The dial on my 16710 is about 30mm; I can’t see a 36mm DJ’s dial being much, if any, smaller but don’t have one to measure.
Yes that’s what I mean Dave, thank you. In my defence, I had been drinking earlier in the evening.
