New Grand Seiko Hi-Beat 20th anniversary.

    Hi all

Saw this stunning GS a couple of weeks back and couldn't help myself! Having been out of the watch game for about 4 years, I was just itching for a new watch to replace the Omega AT I sold due to having a nightmare with it.

So, I was going to get a Datejust, which I've had in the past, but after finding out about GS a few years ago I thought something a bit more low key would be a nice change.

The watch is stunning in the flesh. The dial is just mesmerising. My Rolex had a cream dial with the letters going horizontally and vertically and meeting up to say 'Rolex' and I loved the fact it had Rolex pasted all over it but at a glance you'd just think it was embossed. blatant but descreet at the same time.

This is much the same. You can't notice the GS all over the dial that easily, but then in some lighting it really pops.

Only been wearing it since yesterday when I had the bracelet resized but it's keeping good time at only +1 a day.

Sorry about the lousy iPhone wrist shots.

Love this watch, I follow the hashtag for the reference on instagram and it really looks different in every photo. I really want to go to the boutique to try it on but I’m too scared I’ll buy it.

    Enjoy it!

Thanks. They only have 3 of the 10 left they were allocated at the boutique. They will throw in the first service for free though! You know you want to :)

I wish! I have a Tudor GMT coming (hopefully) soon and I’m trying to see if I can get one of the new metal g shocks so I’ll have to leave watches alone for a while.

Maybe someone nice will put one on SC in a year or three once my pennies have recovered!

That’s a nice watch, but I’m not sure “low key" is how I’d describe it. The dial is definitely eye catching.

I more meant it's a more low key brand. However, the dial pops in certain lights but in others it looks like just a dark blue dial and you can't even notice the pattern.

I bought a gshock dw-5600e-1ver the other week. I love the retro look and it's got great functionality. I set the GS by it too, as it's attuned to atomic time!

I was going to get a Tudor Pelegos until I heard they had a design fault with the markers on the bezel, that apparently can fall out! I think i saw the post on here, or WUS.

Enjoy the GMT and post pics when you get it :)

Stunning, simply stunning. I am going to have to scratch the GS itch. Resistance is futile.

Get to the boutique mate. Only 3 left! Even though Jura still have them in stock.

I have been so tempted with sales on this forum to pick one up. Just a fair amount above my normal 500 price bracket.

Jura does interest free online financing, just saying.

I agree. Like most high end Seiko's, the only thing they do wrong is the box but you don't wear that.

Stunning dial in the daylight photo's.

Some of their bracelets could do with some work. Nothing wrong with then, but competition is stronger.

Can’t speak for other GS’s but the bracelet on this is as good as the Omega AT 8500 I had. Haven’t owned a Rolex for ages so can’t really compare with them.

All in all Im very pleased with the quality of the bracelet though.

I'd agree that Grand Seiko need to up their game with the bracelets. They don't really seem much of an advance on the standard Seiko stuff. But then, for some reason, many Grand Seiko designs seem to look best on a nice leather strap anyway.

I tried this watch on at the (original!) Seiko store in Ginza today. It is quite spectacular. Not just the dial, but every facet. I'm not sure that I've seen any watch as well finished. The hi-beat GS are made at a different factory from the standard GS. Whatever magic they have access to within those walls is strong, rare and potent.

Didn't know that, thanks for the info. It is amazingly finished though. I'm stunned by the level of finish and I have OCD (even though it's suppressed with Sertraline the last few months) but I still have a knack of noticing even the smallest issues. Everything on the watch is perfect, from the finishing to the dial, to the hand alignment, to even the crown that sits perfectly level when screwed in.
