Looks like quite a few managed to kill themselves.

What a fantastic adrenaline rush that must be!

I've seen some flyers doing their thing in the Picos de Europa and no matter how fast they look in the videos they are going a lot faster when they pass you by.

Risky sport indeed, what a buzz it must be though.

It showed a number had died... some poor bugger had to clear up their scattered remains and then another poor bugger had to phone their relatives...

Nothing to admire here... seems like a deeply selfish and reckless past time

Each to their own, utterly bonkers. Sad to see so many fatalities, although unsurprising given the velocity reached. Scraping up the remains and identifying the body will be a grim task.

However, taking your pet along for the ride is pure selfishness. Talk about taking advantage of a dogs unconditional trust in its owner.

Yes, I’ve not nothing against people doing this. The buzz must be immense, and you probably only get it wrong once, but fair play, it’s the closest you’ll get to flying.

Taking your dog with you is horribly selfish.

As I always say to my self when I see this “how do you learn to do it” I guess you don’t get to make too many mistakes.

It’s got a pretty unforgiving learning curve by the looks of things!

I think these guys are skydivers initially, then move onto wingsuits.

Whilst I have to agree with the sentiment you can't stop the human need to experiment and push boundaries

Similar feelings were probably being expressed in the early days of aviation, motor sport etc.

Have to agree that it wasn't fair to take dog, don't understand that at all.

Is the bloke putting his helmet on at 2:37 Nigel Farage?

Amazing footage, looks insane, but must be a truly incredible experience.

I've seen this sort of thing before. There was a video a few years ago called Grinding the Crack (fnarr fnarr) that was of a famous run in Switzerland. I wasn't expecting what happened at 4:22 though!

Yeah... I get that, but, do they have to get soooo close to the ground...? I wasn’t remotely surprised that so many of these young people had carked it... I still think it’s massively reckless and very sad for everyone (literally) picking up the pieces afterwards

I wouldn’t let any of my kids near one, but, I also wouldn’t allow them on motorbikes

I have a healthy attifitfue to risk and happy that people aren’t wrapped up in cotton wool, but, there is a balance!

The people do this are quite literally adrenaline junkies, just like a drug addict in search of the next high. Going close to the ground will deliver the ultimate adrenaline buzz. Playing it safe doesn't enter their heads.

Of course its a selfish endeavour but I respect that they're living life to the full, and are willing to die for it. We all end up at the same destination, they just get there a damn site faster.

Can't disagree with most of the above. I've ridden bikes and driven cars at speeds people would have me jailed for. But I would not have the guts to do this.

I'm spending this evening making one in my shed.

I confidently expect a couple of hours, an old tent, and some duck tape should do it.

I'll nip down to Canary Wharf tomorrow morning with my GoPro and post the footage up here later.

In the unlikely event that I don't post something, you can probably assume the test flight had a few issues I will need to iron out.

Utter madness - but what a high they must get/have got...

  29. #29
I’d probably go out of my mind if my son ever said he was going to do that! Yes, great fun, but looks like too often, it’s a death ride!

(And what a total hole, taking the poor dog, sob)

Channel 4 did a documentary on a guy called Jeb Corliss a few years ago that was really good. I think it was called birdmen but I’m struggling to find it online.

Edit: it was called the human bird

Watch “Daredevils - The Human Bird” on Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/80586792?ref=em-share

Wish I had the balls / valued my life lowly enough to be able to throw myself into doing something like this. You need not live a long life when you live as intensely as these guys.

Good call, mind if I join you?

I’ve still got my old mod parka and the tarpaulin I used to cover my scooter with.

I’ve probably got the piss pot helmet and goggles too somewhere.

I haven’t got a go pro, will a cine camera do; I’ll post a wtb for some unused film?

Well, I did some research here, by looking at earlier designs:

Then I persuaded my mate Barry to have a go with my prototype under controlled conditions:

But it all seemed a bit complicated, I mean how difficult can it be? So I decided to go back to basics:

I'm pretty confident this will work from a tall building or mountain top, so I'll be organising a TZ get together at The Shard shortly. Bring your own designs, a pilot type watch, and the first one to fly to Tower Bridge wins.

    Expressions of interest invited.

If we’re starting at the shard I’ll have to take the toggles if me parka; I don’t want to be left hanging from the pointy bit!

'kin hell, absolute mentalist's all of them.. As someone said above, I found it hard to watch and skipped to the 4:22 launch which someone mentioned. I couldn't watch the bit with the dog.. What about the flyer who had the wing suite attached to his skin - ffs! imagine how their folks feel about it...
