Only just saw this in today's paper, but Ivan Mauger - the six-times World Speedway Champion - has died.

He was an early hero, back in the days when speedway was still a major spectator sport.
I have hazy memories of seeing him race at the stadium in Canterbury back in the early 1970's.

That name takes me back.....saw IM ride many times on his visits to counter Poole Pirates all through the 70s. He was a class act in every respect. A good life well-lived. Hope the smell of Castrol R permeates wherever he is now......
