Chaps.
I had a 90 many many years ago when us second generation mods popped up at the end of the 70’s early 80’s and for a couple of reasons, first being four mile commute across town to the office (nope, no runs or long journeys) and second as a run around for a soon to be old enough youngest son, I am thinking I would like a another smallframe maybe a 50s or Special with a kit or maybe 125.
Obvious is Facebook and Ebay for ideally a late 60’s or 70’s classic but would welcome other suggested outlets and of course experiences of rebuilds as I would consider a bit of a project.
Cheers

After a great deal of hunting, I could not be happier......
Hens teeth 50n, registered in Pisa in September 1969, I have the original paperwork, all original verde mela paint work and pretty much everything else as it should be.
Now the fun begins to get it on the road for the summer (after import nonsense with HMRC and DVLA sorted) and then the project begins proper during the winter to restore to its former glory.
Starts in two kicks and runs like a peach.....

Very nice!
That’s a beauty. Been toying with the idea of getting something similar for a while but my track record with them doesn’t exactly inspire confidence on todays roads.
That's lovely, congrats!
Put a piston kit and decent exhaust on that and it'll pop along very nicely indeed ... I would highly recommend tubeless rims too, for safety :)
That looks super - what a great find. Well done indeed
Cheers fella’s.
Yep, a barrel kit, pipe and new carb are on the cards during the winter.
Lovely to have a scoot again and some real fun ahead.

That's lovely and a great year too👍..been looking at these for a few years myself,we have a lady who brings in the most hideous cosmetic example every year for its Mot and every year I ask if it's for sale, she says that when it fails she'll consider it,problem is it never does.
That looks really special and great provenance. Shame you can't keep the Italian number plate (for a while).
Cheers fella's and indeed the originality and provenance is just what I was after.
Fingers crossed all seems to be going to plan with HMRC (duty, tax, NOVA, etc...), they have been so helpful and I could have this box ticked early next week.
Then onto the DVLA which I understand is going to be a challenge.....

Nice one Pitch.... nice looking scoot. I think sort out what needs doing mechanically and leave the body as is...... only consideration if using regular is perhaps conversion to 12v giving much better lighting and a horn that works.... otherwise keep it original. Glad things worked out for you.
Mike
Apparently, in the Philippens there is a lot of illegal imports of Vespe, recent and vintage. They get confiscated and destroyed. What a waste.

congratulations Pitch.
Where would one start to look at importing something similar? Envious.
That is shocking Franco, they could sent them over here....
Good to hear from you my friend and Easter's trip to Firenze was the real decider in wanting a small frame Vespa. It was heaven just seeing the real old ones leaning against walls or dumped on the ground outside cafe's.

If you check out rallies and gatherings there are sometimes chaps there who have brought a few over into the UK to sell and then you obviously have to go through the HMRC and DVLA malarky. Likewise search the net.
This one was already in the uk but there were issues with the NOVA which I can thankfully say I managed to resolve yesterday with HMRC so onto the DVLA to try and get an age related plate and registered in the UK.
Happy hunting

Hiya Mike,
I had a conversation with my business partner on Wednesday (he has 1900's vintage cars, 1920's RR and Bently, and many other classic cars and bikes) and his view was the same as yours, keep it as is, touch in any paint chips and leave well alone.
Noted on the 12v and like you I feel this is a must, maybe a small barrel kit just to keep up with town traffic.
Many thanks again Mike for all your assistance.

That’s bloody lovely!
Last weekend I swapped my Piaggio BV350 for a PX and it’s been a blast!

Cheers again chaps.
Well the final bit dropped today....
V5C arrived and the wonderful folk at DVLA agreed with my paperwork and have given the Scoot a 1969 age related plate and agreed with the year of manufacture which is just absolutely fantastic news.
So, no MOT's, no Road Tax and I can legally put a lovely black and silver number plate on the back, I could not be happier. Insurance is looking good coming out at £72.00 for a year which again is peanuts.
Next thing is off to a great local Vespa specialist, just one chap who has true love for these bits of kit working out of a little unit for the once over and then a little hacking around begins.
A true bit of urban fun.

Here’s my much loved T5 .... also have an 06 GTS which needs changing for a newer one ... but got the bug for a small frame now!

After purchasing in the spring and the summer rebuild which included, bushes, bearings, Shock, wheels, tyres, full engine strip & rebuild, DR kit, new primary, bigger carb, cables, brakes, SIP pipe and 12 volt kit, my ‘69 Italian registered 50n has had its first run out this afternoon. Pops along nicely running in at 50kph and feels pretty lively when the throttle is blipped, it’s got plenty more beans in the tin.

What a lovely scoot, Im loving the stickers and battle scars, just like a 50 yr old bike should look like. Just keep it in undercover when there is salt on the roads otherwise it will fizz with all that metalwork and alloy.
