Thread: Recomending a new watch for £1000 as a first "Proper Watch".

Stowa. No logo Flieger for me is the best bang for buck watch out there, assuming a pilot style watch is desirable.

    If not, maybe Longines.

The blue Sinn 556 on the dressier bracelet is a good option

Thirded (if that’s a word)? Was thinking exactly the same as I read the thread replies.

Second hand Sinn or Breitling. With the description of the buyer I'd be looking at a U1 or a Superocean.

Does "proper watch" mean mechanical only?

    If yes

Longines and Sinn if you want new.
Seiko if you want new and save a load of money.

For 1k you could find a nice used Grand Seiko 9f, Breitling Aerospace or Longines VHP.

2nd hand Speedy Pro is the lowest cost 'proper' watch you should buy. Anything else is starting the collection with a sh*tter

Be really lucky to find a Speedmaster Professional for £1k, got to be looking at £1500 minimum...

I recently bought a Seamaster Pro 2254.50 for £990 in beautiful condition but that was more luck than going rate..

Agree - very unlikely to get anything for under 1k

Echoing others Sinn or Oris are the first ones that spring to mind for me at the £1000 mark.

Depends what he means by "proper watch" though. I'd definitely class a few of the Hamilton ranges (khaki or Jazzmaster) as a "proper" watch and they're half that price.

Indeed, there's no better watch at this price if you like the style.
    This, without question

A grand is a funny area in new watch territory.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

    Sinn?

    2nd hand 356?

Or a new Squale, 50 Atmos or 30 Atmos

I'm a big fan of the ORIS Big Crown Propilot at this price point.
