Posh burd has fully functioning reproductive organs. The nation rejoices. She’ll probably rattle off a few more before she’s done.

I am sure the unemployed helicopter pilot is utterly chaffed. Good for them.

Shouldn't we have a sweepstake and try to guess the name of our Nation's new Prince, who happens to have been born on St George's Day but was beaten to "George" by his elder brother, so will have to be called something else now?

I'm going with Dave. We haven't had a Prince Dave, and it's about time we did.

How about just "Prince". There's a kid in my boy's class called Prince. But also there's a boy called Adolf. I kid you not.

I don't understand the unpleasantness, I am not a royalist but I wish all goes well for mother and new baby.

Philip would be my bet for the name if it is a boy, Elizabeth if it is a girl.

  14. #14
We should put it to the public.

    Princey McPrinceface?

Can't believe that they only cost the UK 15 mil, you sure you have your figures right there?
The last thing I read was that the treasury give queenie about 80 mil a year alone.

It was a boy a few hours ago.

    I'd guess at Andrew.

You are paying for the Royal Family to do a job, which is represent the Country, however I imagine any payment you are making is more than offset in the revenue they bring into the country.
They are there by birthright and an entrenched aristocracy not by merit, that system doesn’t belong in the modern world.

"Merit". Would that be the "Meritocracy" that produced Presidents Reagan, Bush Jr and Donald Trump?

If so, I'll stick with the Royal Family.

Oh for goodness sake. Their role is purely as figureheads for the country. They cost tax payers about 50p a year, but are expected to provide excellent pubic services and perform huge amounts of charity and good works - which they do. They have to live in a permanent bubble and receive criticism whilst being deigned a platform to respond. Must be all shits and giggles.

But I suppose you would rather the head of the country be part of an economic or political elite instead and we throw out a thousand years of history and one of the things that makes us British. Plus this person will need to get changed every 5 years thus ensuring zero continuity between generations. Wonderful. I also imagine all this efforts would still cost tax payers more that 50p and year.

What’s so important about continuity between generations? Plenty of other countries manage without (and not just the US).

Are the leaders of France, Germany or Ireland, for example, part of a political elite?

I don’t understand why people are comparing the royals as some better alternative to an elected head of government? That was started in the 17th century with a constitutional monarchy and further restrictions in the following century.
They don’t need to be replaced with anything, an alternative doesn’t need to be sought.

This thread is like Groundhog Day - exactly the same as when she had her first two and no doubt will be exactly the same as when Harry becomes a father.

Why not simply enjoy the the fact that a happily married woman gave birth to healthy child rather than making snide comments about their parents.

Women give birth every day of the week, other than my own kids and family members I really couldn't give a rats arse about this one. I don't need to get the commemorative paper out the guardian which I can apparently cherish for years to come, neither do I need to fawn with false admiration that some other human being as managed to procreate....who cares?

Despite what's portrayed in the media, not everyone happens to be a Royalist. I’m certainly not. I don’t see any particular evidence of the nation rejoicing at some burd called Kate popping out yet another bread snapper.

Yes, I’m a Republican. Perhaps I’m in a minority here but we’re still a fairly substantial minority and the numbers are growing.

Good for Kate & William. The Royal family do more for this country than any Republic could, prestige and money wise.

I think we should sell the royals to the Americans with a huge finance deal that will see any deficit wiped out over the next 10 years, they will do well over there as they celebrate the pointless/talentless and excessive wealth celebrity even more than we do.

The birth of another over privileged sprog that will never want for anything and the accompanying celebration and fawning just reinforces the inequalities in our society and how it is run by birthright not merit.
It’s time for a meritocracy not aristocracy.

Well, my money is paying for this family to live in luxury, so I have every right to an opinion, positive or negative. I would be quite happy for royals to have a maximum child quota (say, for example, two). I can't afford more kids, and have limited my breeding as I'm sure most decent people have had to. As a taxpayer I should therefore have a say in how many offspring my dependants consider acceptable in producing. I would rather my hard earned cash went towards a few well aimed contraceptives. The royals limiting their breeding would also set a good example.
