I saw the 5170P recently and it looked fantastic, the blue dial was shimmering and the diamond hour markers were actually very subtle.

Apparently they specifically shaved the baguettes down by fractions to keep them subtle. Easily mistaken for highly polished white metal at a distance.

It's a good choice and they certainly improved on the gold 5170's. I always used the 3940 for my screen saver and I ended up getting it.

I love the 3940. It's a beautiful watch but sadly it just doesn't sit right on my wrist.

I love it but you're right it's slim and small for some and can be awkward on the wrist.

I was the lucky recipient of Simons (Skyman) 5167 but has to move it on when #1 son decided to buy his first house.

Maybe it was the circumstances of the sale but it didn’t hurt as much as I thought it would.

Would I have another one? Not sure, it’s a bit like “been there, got the T-shirt”.

Oh and for the record, I drive a Range Rover L322.

This is a beautiful watch, but £140k is a very serious proposition.

It's possible that it happens more than I might think, even with top-shelf brands like Patek, but when it starts to show, or when plebeians like myself begin even to suspect it, something isn't right.
They've unquestionably cheaped out in the design department, and it's particularly apparent in their uneducated dial work, which normally features sloppily-arranged Windows-default type.

It's really incredible that the Stern family, who started off as dialmakers who were evidently skilled enough at their craft to buy out Patek Philippe, has let their standards slip so far since Thierry became boss.

They still make enough older models, and some new ones to keep me interested. Spare funds permitting...
It's just a matter of time...

Love mine, probably my favourite Patek. I also have the bracelet for it so have the best of both worlds. Driving my Boxster today but can also be seen driving a Rav4 or quite happily poodling around in a Punto.

Pros - very versatile watch, very comfortable to wear, lightweight but seems robust. Excellent time keeping, very good visibility and very visible lume at night.
Cons - stainless steel bezel is a scratch/scuff magnet and the polished/brushed finish means that scuffs and scratches show quite badly.

Funny I’ve not found it to be a scratch magnet at all. My reverso’s on the other hand...

I always thought that aquanaut dial looks rather plastic in flesh, couldnt shake the feeling of cheaper Nautilus.

    Indeed, that one's a masterpiece.

Pity what happened to the model line afterwards. :|

The 5140 was a big disappointment and when I see the new Nautilus PC I can't help but reminded of it.

Yeah, I quite understand, I still think I'm nuts paying £10k for a 2nd hour hand. But, the 5164 just sings so much more to me. That said, the 5167 is a lovely watch and with an even stronger following - I just can't get my head round the date window (but that's purely me). I'm sure you will be delighted (as are so many other owners)!

In daylight you get to see the depth of the dial, as you've said it's sublime. I actually prefer the dial to the blue 5711.

It's a stunning watch and my grail! Unfortunately I don't have 16-18k to spend on a watch, but when I do I'll be getting one.

Looks amazing on the black rubber strap too.

Patek Aquanaut 5167a - Views and opinions please.

The dial is so clear and crisp!

If I had to choose between the Aquanaut and Nautilus I would choose Aquanaut as it is superb for a high end daily wearer.

I find this more comfortable for my daily wearer.

You guys are making me jealous - I am still holding out for the service on my ordered 5176A-001.

Just had to console myself with the 5146J today:

It is a great daily watch and goes unnoticed, which makes me feel relaxed about wearing it in most situations.
