Last minute gift buying help please; G Shock stuff perhaps.

It's a mate's 40th birthday celebration next weekend, a bunch of us have set a budget of up to 500 quid for a gift.

He's always wanted a ceramic Rado but that's out of budget, next best choice for him is a Casio G Shock... I know, chalk and cheese.

I have one G, an old bottom-of-the-range G1001BV, and know little about what's out there these days.

I know there are some pretty cool limited editions and some packed full of features, but if YOU were buying a G, up to 500 quid, today, what would you pick up?

Well that would get you a new full metal 5600 model I believe. Not sure when they will all be available but the g shock store on carnaby will know.

Many others will undoubtably chime in as per their recommendations and will likely be must better informed.

You know, that sounds like a great option, the classic G but in steel.

I've looked and failed, there is no way I'm laying my hands on one of those before next Saturday.

Rats. I figured they’d be available sometime around now and thought it’d make a perfect gift.

I’d call the shop if you haven’t already done so and check. I thought I’d heard they were getting them in but wasn’t sure exactly when.

I've called the store and while reservation isn't possible I've arranged for someone to get there early doors on release day, which is actually perfect!

Excellent choice; classic looks, stainless steel, the committee said yes.

Hi, there are a couple of G's on sale at Goldsmiths web site

    https://www.goldsmiths.co.uk/G+Shock...ch/p/17050316/

No idea if it's what you are after

Might be worth doing the 500 budget search and see what is available

    Cheers

I’m excited for you! If I didn’t live in the middle of nowhere I’d definitely have one of those ASAP.

Do keep us informed of your friends reaction. I’d be well chuffed to receive a gift like that from mates.

These are very nice (and come in a variety of colour combinations) but your mate needs quite a wrist to pull it off as they are impossibly large. To illustrate, I have no problem pulling off an AMW-320R, which is 44, possibly 45 mm in diameter, and yet these looked comically large on my wrist.

Casio outlet might be worth a look. The watches are pristine and with a full warranty, but the box might be scuffed and manual may be missing. Not ideal for a gift, but some really cool G's normally out of budget.

I would recommend one from the G Steel midsize range, the slight reduction in size makes it very wearable. I find it a bit smarter and less G-Shocky if that makes sense! I've tried the original G Steels before but found them too large. I have the blue version and the rest of my G-Shocks haven't had a look in since.

Some more good suggestions there, but the committee has spoken and all going well the purchase of the new one will be made on Thursday.
