    First full metal G-shock

Just saw a guy - no relation - selling this G. Only 1 pic but gives an idea of what they look like and the price. He’s selling for usd 575

Thanks for posting, first real world pic I've seen. Looks very shiny (although I still want one)

Still think they should make it in titanium.

This is a watch I need to try!

Apologies if this has been posted before but more decent pics :

The shininess kills it for me. I'd buy one if it came with a brushed finish.

I like it, but it isn't really "fulll metal", it is a plastic unit with a metal over and bracelet. Pretty much like the G-7100D.

Yep, the G-7100D has a steel cover, plastic movement unit, steel case back and bracelet, just like that!

It’ll still take way more of a beating than most other watches though. Mine are on order, can’t wait!

I'd like to launch my two pence if you may. I think its a solid steel case with a dlc coating giving it the plastic look. I owned the gw5000 and it looked plastic albeit with a polished surface.
I say that based on the screwback case in the photo. Ofcourse its not a one-piece case as the red shock gel sits in between the outer and inner case....

Hopefully it is correct. You must let us know, but regardless I like the styling of the watch, very retro but modern, if that makes sense.

It is an interesting variation on a square G but are you guys considering the price? Seems sky high.

Will there be a PVD version?

I'm confident that it eventually will. This release already seems to be a great success for Casio, and now that they'd developed the design, it only makes sense to produce variations to satisfy all corners of the market. My ideal version would be titanium on titanium with a capable battery-powered module such as the 3178; if something at least comes close for a good price (sub-300 euro would be nice), I'll go for it.

I have seen a photo of a ltd edition. Its a collab with another brand and looks really nice in the photos. I will try to dig it up. But instead of pvd i am going to hazard a guess its IP coating instead and probably a high gloss finish.

I don’t understand the hype and high price for this watch.....

It's a few hundred quid, and an update to a design classic watch that many people have a soft spot for.
Personally I love it and can't understand the hype and price tag of many thousands of a thoroughly plain looking no-date Rolex in another thread.

An absolute classic the first gen mrg. I really hope casio re introduce a solid steel case mrg again with all the modern tech. Not too bothered by Bluetooth.

And I wish I'd bought one years ago for next to nothing - but I thought digitals were uncool at that particular time ...

The Tudor bronze thread got me thinking - Casio should (eventually) do a bronze metal 5000 for great justice!

Hopefully they will do a Ti, non-bluetooth version.

    I'll wait.

Or indeed the concept of a fancy G-Shock in the first place.

For me, making it out of shiny metal defeats the entire purpose of a G, which is supposed to be an extra-tough plastic watch.

G-Shock seems to be in the business of making colorful stuff. In that sense this shiny one fits in with their game plan. Rather than toning these down as others are hoping they just might bring out more colors and flashier finishes.

  32. #32
    Colours, sure.

A finish that you have to baby, not so much.

    First full metal G-shock

I’m not sure guys, I kind of like watches when they look lived in and a bit beat up. Most of the toys that I own and enjoy the most are all beat up a little bit from guitars and canoes to motorcycles and bicycles. I think the contrast between the shiny and chipped parts of the watch would, for me anyway, be appealing.

I think spending 4 figures on a G-Shock may be confirmation that I've fully lost the plot, but my DLC has just been delivered and is waiting for me at home when I get back from work this evening!

Bought from the G-Shock UK website yesterday within a couple of minutes of the page going live, I think it took until around 4.30pm or so for the DLC to sell out online, not sure about the Carnaby St store as I know they had stock there too. Would be interesting to know the UK allocation (limited to 500 worldwide though they aren't individually numbered which is a shame).

Wearing my GW-5000-1JF today in anticipation...

I do hope I see the DLC version in person one day, I have the hardest time imagining what it might look like IRL out of the three. But please do post pictures once you get your hands on yours, I don't think there's another pic online at the moment apart from the one from G Central.

Yes they were very good quality watches, a bit of presence but very light due to all titanium construction.

This was a full metal G Shock 20 years before this current one.

Casio also did a DW-5000 with a full metal bracelet around 2001.

Only DW-5000 issued with bull bars as well.

There’s 4 spring bar holes along the clasp for further adjustment. It’s pretty big as standard, I had to remove 5 links!

At £150 I'm in, at £600 not so much, I have a 5610, it's my holiday, DIY, biking... Well you get the idea. Maybe a brushed finish would add to its hard core roots though.

I like the stainless one, but shininess and price are a bit of a turn off.

I think I'll stick with my matt steel Casio H101 Marlin for now.

I've just started a thread sharing some photos of my DLC which I've just opened. Watch itself looks great, the Porter bag is OK but not amazing quality, doesn't feel as expensive as I thought it might, but overall happy as the watch itself is the most important part!

Wanted to get the silver that was out of stock almost immediately.

Will these be coming back in stock or is that it?

    Have seen a few online. But I don’t think I could pay a premium for a G-Shock
