    Jaeger JLC Service Recommendations please

    Hi Everyone

Firstly, thanks to everyone for all the info on the forum. I lurk and rarely post, my fear that if I start posting it might lead to damage to my bank account :)

I have a 2012 Jaeger LeCoutre (JLC) Master Control.

I think it requires a service as it has started running very fast.

If I can avoid the cost of sending it to JLC Switzerland, I'd like to. Ideally I'd like to send it to someone in the South East, so that I could deliver and collect in person as postal insurance for £5k seems difficult to obtain/expensive.

Any recommendations for someone able to service JLC would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    R

A few topical points here for you to consider.
Firstly, it sounds like your watch needs attention.
Secondly, Webwatchmaker is JLC trained (I believe)
Thirdly, you are reasonably close to Torquay to deliver and collect ( if required)
I do reckon that you will have a cost effective service completed although as I write this I have just remembered reading earlier that the guy is looking to take some time off.
And so maybe due to recent "goings on" some of his desire to fix our watches has been killed off.
Sorry but with hind sight this post is maybe not of much use to you.
Enjoy what's left of your weekend.

Thanks, hopefully he would have time to service my watch. However, Torquay is a very long way from London.

    Steve Hale
    Bill Rice
    Clock Watches in Barnet?

Anyone have any views in the above or any other recommendations?

    Thank you

I’ve never used Bill Rice or Steve Hale but have never seen a bad word written on here about them, only good

I’ve used Clock Watches and they are fine but I wouldn’t give my 2008 JLC Master Geographic to them as it is too specialised in my opinion.

I did give it to Brendan about 18 months ago and it came back running and looking like a dream. Having been about +12spd before and with stiff winding, it has been +1.5spd since, and both the auto and manual winding are great. As I had to have a few parts replaced I reckon I saved about £500 and several months without my watch compared to what I have read on here about JLC services. Brendan kept me informed of progress in words and pictures along the way.

Just make sure you sort out everything out with Brendan first if you use him. FWIW after discussion with Brendan at the time I arranged my own insurance each way - other threads discuss this in depth.

If you take your watch to the JLC boutique in Bond Street I gather from the manager there it may well go to their UK service centre and not Switzerland. They have an onsite expert watchmaker with workshop as well who is a very nice chap with 25 years at JLC under his belt, although I think he doesn’t do routine services, more the high end work on the complicated models for customers who need that on the spot. But you could drop in and talk to them about it. Of course everything like insurance and warranties will be simple with them. On the other hand you won’t get pictures of your watch in bits and being reassembled by a named individual who you are in constant dialogue with who also shows you the test results before returning it.

I realised when I had mine serviced that it is not really like booking your average car into a main dealer/garage. As you’ve taken the time (and money!) to buy such a relatively rare and special watch, it’s worth taking the time to find an approach that works for you; as you obviously are with your post.

Good luck what you decide to do. Show us some pictures when it is back on your wrist!

Thank you for your posts above.
It would take more than a few trolls to finish me off !
I am however away for the whole of May but will be happy to repair your MC after my return.

I wouldn't worry too much Brendan! Enjoy your time off.

I have used Steve Hale on a few occasions and have always had a positive outcome. In fact, when I had a vintage reverso which needed a service, JCL in Bond Street recommended that I use Steve Hale rather then send it to Switzerland for maybe a year.
