I’ve used Clock Watches and they are fine but I wouldn’t give my 2008 JLC Master Geographic to them as it is too specialised in my opinion.
I did give it to Brendan about 18 months ago and it came back running and looking like a dream. Having been about +12spd before and with stiff winding, it has been +1.5spd since, and both the auto and manual winding are great. As I had to have a few parts replaced I reckon I saved about £500 and several months without my watch compared to what I have read on here about JLC services. Brendan kept me informed of progress in words and pictures along the way.
Just make sure you sort out everything out with Brendan first if you use him. FWIW after discussion with Brendan at the time I arranged my own insurance each way - other threads discuss this in depth.
If you take your watch to the JLC boutique in Bond Street I gather from the manager there it may well go to their UK service centre and not Switzerland. They have an onsite expert watchmaker with workshop as well who is a very nice chap with 25 years at JLC under his belt, although I think he doesn’t do routine services, more the high end work on the complicated models for customers who need that on the spot. But you could drop in and talk to them about it. Of course everything like insurance and warranties will be simple with them. On the other hand you won’t get pictures of your watch in bits and being reassembled by a named individual who you are in constant dialogue with who also shows you the test results before returning it.
I realised when I had mine serviced that it is not really like booking your average car into a main dealer/garage. As you’ve taken the time (and money!) to buy such a relatively rare and special watch, it’s worth taking the time to find an approach that works for you; as you obviously are with your post.
Good luck what you decide to do. Show us some pictures when it is back on your wrist!
