    Jaguar XF reliability.

    Anyone else got one ?

I have a 65 plate XF 2.0 diesel (that’s the new model with Ingenium engines)
Over about 50k miles I’ve had numerous DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) faults.
Each time this requires a visit to the dealership OR roadside assistance.
Each time their service is pretty good - but...
It’s getting a tad inconvenient as I rely on this vehicle for work.

Surely there’s a sensor issue & they just need to fix that rather than endless software resets & updates ?

Anyone else got one with similar issues ?

I think I’ll go back to German cars next time (6 months from now).

    Bah !

I do not own a JLR product but what you described sounds very much like the anecdotes of those I know who do and is reflected in their poor scoring in reliability surveys over the last few years...

I have a Jaguar XF 2.7 diesel which has had quite a few reliability issues but not your particular DEF problem - the persistent smell of smoke/fumes coming into the cabin which took several visits to the Dealer to fix and at least three DPF warnings (diesel filter clogged up) which have restricted the performance of the car. Normally, a 15 minute run down the motorway at 50 to 60 mph is sufficient to clear the filter - I have been told that it is too much city driving that causes the problem - but the last incident resulted in the Jaguar Dealer telling me that the car needed a new filter at a cost of £2,750.

I took it to a good independent who had the filter professionally cleaned and good as new for £260. However, I was without the car for two weeks. He drives an XF himself and said that when he started putting really good quality engine oil into the car at service time, all his problems stopped.

Another Jaguar, maybe but definitely not a diesel.

Currently running the 3.0 diesel S and touch wood no problems like you guys are describing! It does do a 130 mile round trip every day mostly motorway at a steady 70 mph and I wonder if this helps?

    Thanks guys.

Looks like the above issues (or non-issues) are previous generation XFs.

The adblue (& sensors) issue seems to be an issue with this newer engine technology.

It's infuriating as as they always ask where did you fill up [the adblue], ...

...which they know full well was always at the local Jaguar AD.

Perhaps you drive it like a Nun? If you like, I could borrow it for a weekend to give it an “Italian tune-up” mate?!

On most days that’d be accurate.

I (usually) stick it in ECO (waft) mode & it’s a superb cruiser.

However, today on the A41 to Chester, it got ‘the beans’ as I was a bit p!ssed off with it.

Now it tells me I’ve only 400 miles before it won’t play again.

Hopefully, JLR service will rescue me by then. ...
