or slightly optimistic?

I appreciate they are no longer going to be produced, but I'm noticing some silly pricing of late regarding many MM300 variations, which beggars belief to be honest.

There was an SBDX017 on for £1950 that timed out unbidden over the weekend too

Bandwagon indeed.

Are those the prices to take that horrible thing away?
The usual black one exudes a degree of robust charm, but that pale blue one is just....mmmm.....

As a data point, I listed my SBDX012 on ebay last night and it sold within an hour at £2200.
I just wanted what I paid for it so someone else could enjoy, but I feel in hindsight that it was a bit cheap.
As much as I like the blue one there’s not a chance I’d be reaching for the wallet at that price.
Shocking prices , for what should be affordable pieces

That is Limited Edition. I would love to get one for £2k but I doubt that will happen.

Have they been discontinued????
Apparently so. I suspect they'll be a replacement at some point. My guess; same movement, no Marinemaster script with a Prospex symbol in its place and (going out on a limb) a ceramic bezel

I remember buying them new from Higuchi for £600.
Isn’t this the SLA019J1?

Quite fancied an early MM300 but maybe not anymore
I want one too. But will wait till they drop again. This happened with orcas, they went astronomical then eventually dropped back to real prices.
I seem to remember that too. Pre-financial crisis, before the pound crapped out against the yen. At one point it almost hit 250 to the pound compared to 150 now. The equivalent now would be about £900 + duties brand new so the rest would be just price inflation.
Amazing to think that even the new green Marinemaster would only be about £1300 plus duties at list price if the pound to yen was back at 250.
Ah well; back then a stainless steel sub was just over £2k new and could be got from most ADs at virtually anytime - occasionally even with a small discount. A speedie moonwatch was about £1,300 or so.
Glory days in retrospect
To put this in perspective, I bought my first Moonwatch, new, from a reseller on eBay, in early 2004 for £860. This was after a lot of haggling and a direct sale agreed to avoid fees. The watch had been sourced from an Italian AD, with the card stamped and dated March 2004. I sold it years later, bought it back on SC and sold it again, in response to a WTB. It was still in vgc and, if still in the same condition, would now fetch at least twice what I originally bought it for.
I think that this is potentially a future classic. It’s difficult to know where the values will end up but average asking prices seem to have gone up by a third in the last month!

As an owner, I'm pleased.... But then you realise all the other watches you want to own in future are probably appreciating in the same way: running to stand still.

Glad I picked up this recently serviced example in January.
It's a 2012 Seiko SBDX001 (MM300) - serviced in mid 2016 - bought as my holiday watch.
But if prices do rocket I may have to rethink my holiday beater ;)

They are great watches and one I always wanted to own, unfortunately I doubt I ever will now as I can't justify spending that sort of money because it is now discontinued
I think it is the way of watch collecting these days, a lot of people looking for good investments/profits
I will stick with my cheap 6309 :)
Shame to see the sun go down on the classic Marinemaster name..
I have an almost perfect SBDX001 full set and sometimes I think it's too chunky for my wrist, but it just has something so captivating that I would miss it dearly if I sold it, great to see the prices going the right direction though..
I want one now, just because

Are the prices going up because Vinny owns them all? ... or has done at some point.
I really wanted to love the SBDX017 I bought from Vinstink last year, but couldn't and for all it's great attributes, it wasn't a keeper.
Bizarrely though, I really want one again having read this thread.
Ive owned a few, my old SLA015 is now on eBay for a mark up of £1,600!
Not bad OP!

Cracking watch, was always on the cheap side. I really fancied an MM600 SD.
Only if somebody is daft enough to pay my stupid asking price, pay by bank transfer and pick it up. Highly unlikely but prices are crazy at the moment .
Guess I was very lucky to buy when I did. First and last time though I’m sure. Once this crazy price period dies down it will be back on my wrist.
