Just been to the natural history museum, but the whale exhibition seems to have finished which is a shame as interesting for both adults and kids. The queue was horrendous, but if you buy tickets to an exhibition you can skip the queue as they have a time slot (just show tickets/phone to the lady on the stairs outside and they will let you in)-perhaps the Wildlife Photography if you can get there early or late, venom has lots of slots and is the cheapest one.

Not done the science museum since I was a kid, so no idea.

British Museum is okay if near Euston/ Kings-Cross, just the free bits, exhibitions look a bit dull for kids.

BTW if anyone is near Tring the Rothschild Museum hosts the wildlife photography for free later in the year (usually late summer/autumn I think)

Go early. Queues are ridiculously long. They go through quite fast but if it's grim weather it's deeply unpleasant.

Hate bloody queues. Gonna get there for 9 and see how it is

13 yo boy? Science Museum. Hands down.

(And if, for some reason, you don’t like it, just walk around the corner to the NH Museum).

Imperial War Museum would be a good shout. Thats if your son is into that kind of thing.

I think that you can sneak into the NHM through the old Geological Museum entrance around the corner and beat the queues.

    Churchill War Rooms.

Really excellent experience. Failing that and depending what he's into either Natural History or Science.

Took my son to the Tate Modern, big mistake. When ever I asked him to tidy his room or clear up the mess he’d just made he smile at me and say “it’s not a mess, it’s modern art” !

Don't forget that there's the Clockmakers' Museum in the Science Museum now. Well worth a few minutes of your time, as is the Zaha Hadid-designed Winton Mathematics Gallery on the top floor.

Just back from a great day in London. Did the science museum. Got there at 9-30. No queue at all. By 10 when it opened it was massive.
