    New Breguet Marine

The Breguet Marine 5817 (with big date) is one of my favorite watches ever. But, my goodness, what have Breguet replaced it with....?

    WTH is that!

That offset sunburst dial is stunning, but everything that's on it and around it is just grim.

Here's a watch for everyone who hates having to put their name on a list and wait!

I love Breguet, but oh dear what have they done with that?!! What's with the little roofs on top of the numerals?

Well this is a complete failure... If you can't design a nice watch then don't do it at all...

Take away those Roman numerals and I think it would transform it, but they are terrible

I agree that's a huge error of judgement by breguet. The 5817 had an amazing guilloche dial, straight soldered lugs - It looked like a breguet. I can only assume this one is made to hit a lower pricepoint.

This new one says "Swiss guilloche main" thats not a guilloche dial is it?

Also, bit off position for the minute hand to be in given where the seconds hand is. Could have at least tried when setting up the image.

Edit: Actually, looking at a bunch of stock images, it would appear it's common for the seconds hand and minute hand positions to be totally out of whack.

“How can we add the needless complexity of an integrated bracelet lug design to our strap only dress watch?”

i rather they don't launch anything at this year's Basel. It's plain ugly.

That's what I thought at first, but those hands are awful too.

Those numerals are easier to manufacture, cheaper and easier to fit! They appear to be the work of a bean counter not a designer! Abraham-Louis Breguet must be spinning in his grave!

I can't justify it in words, but it feels like this design released this week, is related to the new version of the Seamaster released this week. As if the same underlying thought had been sent out to Omega and Breguet. Here's an idea: Omega, make us a Seamaster version of it; Breguet, make us a Marine version.

Sir will have difficulty fitting anything other than our reassuringly expensive OEM straps to this one!

At least the new one doesn't have the excessively long lugs.

Looks horrible, previous gen in blue and grande date looks like 2 tiers better watch.

  28. #28
Are they some sort of screws or some such on the lugs ? Hard to define.

  29. #29
Thats horrible - looks like a generic Fossil watch.

I'm going to come out and say that I like it.
I like the hands, i like the dial colour, and I really like the way they've done the roman numerals. It feels fresh.
I'm not a fan of the chrono though: adding more complexity to the dial, especially the asymmetrical counters, doesn't help the cause.

I'll show myself out now... :)

Fortunately sanity prevailed and i ordered the old model the night before the new model was announced, as it happens.

I described the new model to someone as "looking more boaty". Theyve done away with the 18k gold rotor and replaced it with something that looks like a boat wheel. Oh and the power reserve has gone down from 65 hours to 55.

Then theres the lack of lugs which make the watch more feminine, but then an increase in size from 39mm to 40mm. A shambles basically.

    Incoming!

And the award for the fugliest watch 2018 goes to...

Such a shame as I really liked this model. Should be great for the resale value of the old models...

The blue wavy dial 3 hander is my favourite.
