    Franck Muller

I'm considering adding a pre owned Franck Muller to my small collection, I've been looking at them on line for a while now although I've never actually seen one in the flesh. Any advice on the brand in regard to quality, repairs and servicing costs etc would be appreciated.

Frosts of London are also the only UK listed retailer, so ask them too, just for comparison, etc.

Being an ETA base caliber in most models, any good watchmaker/repairer should be able to handle them – our own member webwatchmaker (add .com for his website) shouldn’t have any difficulty, and might be able to obtain brand specific parts, if required.

    Hi Bad Bob,

My Wife has a Frank, I've never opened it but the quality of the case, bracelet and dial is superb.

It hasn't needed a repair or service yet so I can't comment there.

Brendan was able to source a sapphire for mine after an unfortunate incident with a grumpy elderly lady and a shopping trolley.

I'm confused - did you hit her with the shopping trolley (hers or yours?), or with your Muller?

She hit my Muller with her trolley. Trust me, it took a big effort not to react when she suggested that my wrist shouldn’t have been in her way!

I have a 1996 Casablanca (on a steel strap) and have always been impressed with the finish of the watch. The movement is based on an ETA, but with Muller mods, including a platinum Rotor, has been excellent and the watch still keeps perfect time despite never been serviced in my 20 years of ownership.

Even the box it came in (looks like an old leather suitcase) is a lovely thing.

Some folks here are a bit sniffy about Muller and consider his watches as a "fashion brand", but they totally ignore his Grand Complications, which put some more "historical" brands to shame. They also forget that Muller designed his own Tourbillon at the ripe old age of 26 and started his own company at 33.

Whoever does not know how to hit the nail on the head should be asked not to hit it at all.

Thank you for all the replies, I now feel much happier that they can probably be locally serviced. I have already had some contact with Frosts, they appear to be the only UK AD at present.

I'm definitely looking at pre owned, it looks to me that they do take a fair drop in value unlike Rolex and some others.

Not sure if this helps or not, but watches of distinction always have a small selection of FM watches for sale.

I’ve only dealt with Giles on one occasion, and he was a gent...
