I was lucky enough to bag a 16700 last year from the SC and no issues whatsoever.
The quickset date is my preferred choice as I never use the GMT function so the 700’
works well for me and I wouldn’t let it put you off in any way against the 710’
Fellas,
I'm OK with what the technical differences are but I am curious as to the collective TZ view on which is the better bet as a purchase?
I've found a lovely looking 16700 full box and papers which just the right amount of fade to the bezel and wondering if I should go for it instead of a 16710?
Do we thinking the 'older' model and quick set date movement is less desirable?
Anyone owned one and had any issues?
What do we think a fair dealer price is for a box and papers mid 90's watch is?
Cheers.
Smokey

I too have a 16700 and very happy with it. I do use dual time zone - quick set date a real plus as it's worn in rotation. Can't help with values I'm afraid as I would be just guessing - which I am sure you can do just as well. Good luck 😀
Thanks for replies. The more I think about the quick set version the more it suits my rotation wear as well.
I'm just wary that it might be considered a poorer cousin and pricing seems to have caught up with the '710.

Very much the same here. I love my black bezel 16700

I once owned a 16700. Mine was a mint 1999 'swiss' only dial model, hence it had enough rarity value to place it above a 'common' 16710 imho and I preferred to have the quick set date too. So I bought. However, although very happy with mine at the time, I would now be buying a 16710 with the independent hour hand if I could and I am pretty sure that the consensus will be that the 16710 is considered the more desirable/saleable watch.
It's not much help to you, but getting into the market with either of them is a smart move. Both models are only going to increase in value and look so much better than anything current (including today's offering). Condition is everything - better a lovely 16700 than a tired 16710.
I have no idea what is a fair price these days. I wish I'd never sold mine though :-(
I got the 16700 when I had the chance, quickset date being a real plus for me.
I also enjoy the omission of II next to the gmt master moniker.
Apparently the 16700 was sold in much lesser numbers than the 16710...

I prefer the 16700 due to the quick set date changin the date on the 16710 is a long winded affair and can be quite annoying if you only wear once every few week, I constantly have the wrong date on my gmt 2 as I can’t be bothered to wind it for half an hour to get the right date
The 16700 was a cheaper watch than the 16710 when new and was considered a lesser watch for a long time.
These days however, it seems to me that they are both equally desirable and have similar values.
I’ve a 16710 but I’m sure I’d be equally happy if I had a 16700 instead.
I was expecting that all the 16700’s came with Tritium dials but think they must have crossed over at some point and made both.
If going for 16700 then imagine T25 dial is more sought after or is it more complex than that?
And yes, I know it doesn’t ‘really’ matter just curious.

This is your friend :-)

The main advantage of the 16710 is the sheer versatility of it.
You can have the choice of the 3 coloured bezels and also you can swop the Oyster for a Jubilee and remain in spec.
It is a very cool watch to wear.
Thanks but I'm not after facts, I want opinions!

I am an owner of a-series 16700, but there is one thing that is worth noting:
If you don't want a tritium dial, 16700 only has lume dials in the 2000 A-series watches, but they always come with lugholes. However, the main gist is here: if you go for lume dial and aren't after the tritium patina, you can get BOTH lug holes and nice SEL-bracelet if you go for the 2001-2003 watches. They come with the heftier bracelet and and lug holes.
16700 pros
- Quickset date
- Always comes with lug holes
- Available in lume and tritium
- A bit thinner
16700 cons
- more vintagish bracelet, doesn't come with the SEL bracelet
- No second timezone.
- Smaller production run
16710 pros
- Independent second hand and two time zones.
- Available in tritium as well as lume
- Lug-holes only in pre 2003 specimen
- Solid endlinks bracelets start from 2001
16710 cons
- No quickset date
- No lugholes after 2003ish
- Tritium dials come with the lugholes.
That's more like it. Thank you very helpful.

I have a 16710, 2002, lug holes, superluminova dial, solid end links - as others have said, it's a super versatile watch. For me, quick set time is the priority as I travel, plus my OCD requires me to have hacking seconds where possible. It's only a couple of turns to change date, but being able to change time zone easily without stopping the watch is the main thing. Lovely thing.
Sorry, you're right, it wasn't fitted Rsc.
Point being, either get can wear any of the bezels if you use an independent or do it yourself. Mine came all black from new.

Each to there own but the new model is a little flash for me. The combo of the jubilee bracelet which is more jewellery like offering, the very strong colours on the ceramic bezel and the over sized 24 hour digits just don't sit right with me.
I'm sure it will feel lovely on the wrist but needing to be either a high roller with the AD , very lucky in terms of the list or a gullible fool overpaying by £3,000 to a grey dealer is not where I'm at.
Definitely not. This is far classier than anything released this week. Screenshot_20180323-102611_01.jpg

I am more than covered with my old inferior 16700...
Plus I can change the insert anytime I want and achieve a completely different look.
It is amazing how much different it feels when I put the fresh Pepsi on...
Add to those the full black and the Cole bezel with an extra jubilee bracelet and you can form a combination for everyday of the week.
The new gmt will not be featuring such versatility I guess...
Anyway each to their own...

I love mine. Best watch I have ever owned. late stick dial sporting the LN and jubilee.
Looks great Pete. I prefer the 16710 too, especially as after tomorrow and the clocks change forward, having a GMT watch that can't actually be used for GMT would really annoy me. I have never struggled to set the date at all so don't see any benefits for the 16700 personally. A matte dial 16750 still is appealing however, but would have to just wear it between October - March.
