Catching up after work. The Tudor GMT is both brilliant yet a Rolex Pepsi copy at the same time. Great value, it will sell in droves, yet it smacks of cheap Rolex. I wonder if they should have developed their own design language, rather than look to Rolex’s past ( and new present!)

The BB 58 is great IF it’s lost the earlier models slab-sided thickness. Rolex GMT unobtanium, yet lovely, although it should be on a brushed oyster bracelet.

I really like these but it’s a shame that an “entry level” three hander costs £4.5K.

Some of the original 50s models were like this, it’s actually a very good copy. Like it or loathe it, but that’s how they were done originally.

Haven’t checked the size on this but I’m sure it’ll be way too big!

Nothing like. I had one, and the hands were much longer

    EDIT
Just for some fun I have made up this from the Omega photos and one of my old one (which itself had a broken second hand, which shortened it!).

I have tried to make the cases the same size, they are within a few percent (3%). The newer one is mostly lower in the frame. The dial looks bigger on my old one, but it lacks the area of crystal distortion.
Despite the similarity of size, the hour han on mt old one is 25% longer, and the minute hand 10% longer.
They reach similar locations on the track, but the trackon the older one is further out on the dial, nestling right against the 9 and 3, not near them.

Ooh hello. Well done Zenith for crashing the integrated brecelet(ish) sports watch party. 39mm would have done it for me but points anyway.

Going to Baselworld tomorrow morning, not sure if i'll get any decent pictures but will do my best to avoid Rolex. The independents are the always the best stalls for me.

Isn't all Longines already on their site? I think they were one of the first to publish. All that I have seen are dull - wonder what the black LLD will look like in the metal though.

Unless they have made it higher quality then it's not with the update imo.

Wow must’ve been poor offerings. Heard not a peep about them. I recall 2017 was a good one for the with that Ben (Clymer?) 1945 getting a lot of love last year.

They look great. I'm annoyed at IWC for discontinuing the old Ingenuir with integrated so that Defy is very welcome

Such a deliberately retro design seems out of step with Certina's general brand image

Completely agree, a very smart move from Zenith after IWC dropped the ball. They can do it with their own movements too, and don’t have to worry about the Ingy’s antimagnetic history. I’m looking forward to seeing how these wear, 41mm may be pushing it for me but at least some of that is the crown guard and the case being wider than the bezel, so I’m hoping they wear a touch smaller, with a bezel of 39/40mm. Something with the proportions of the 39mm Royal Oaks would be great, especially now AP themselves have made the standard model too large for many.

Definitely one of the hits of the show this year, along with the black and white OP39s from Rolex, which may not be grabbing the headlines but will be very popular real world choices.

Wow, some slam dunks for me, first as above, the new 36mm Oris 65, the slimmer Black Bay 58 is a great step in the right direction and the Seamaster
The Black Bay GMT looks spot on too, if still a little too large for me personally!

Bit of a winner; I'd prefer to have kept the Marinemaster script in place of the Prospex logo but it still looks good. I wonder if there will be a green rubber strap to go with it

  29. #179
Official photos of the SLA025 as well as the down-market modern take (SPB077) which I think looks rather good. Certainly more appealing for me than the green special version of the Marine Master posted earlier in the thread. The SLA025 is 44.8mm diameter (too big in my book) and the SPB077, 44mm (still too big but less too big than the SLA025).

Another Seiko souless Prospex with tacky graphic looking hands and zero charm. Seriously the most sterile looking release yet... Needs to have a price point of £150 then it might be an option for a beater. I'd rather wear an SKX.

The Grand Seiko SBGH265J, high-beat 36000 bph, V.F.A, in platinum, limited run of 20 and a snip at 53,500 Euro.

This is a pretty good looking effort from Guinand

40.6mm diameter, 7753 powered, 200m WR with bi-directional bezel and classic reverse panda good looks with a hint of CP-2/Bund numeration (no nibbles) and no date, I think this is a very welcome return to traditional design for them.
And at €1865 it is very good value.

Aside from the hands, about which I feel ambivalence, the rest looks no less tacky or soulless than the SBDX017. I am not a fan of the Prospex X branding either but I'd have this any day of the week than an SKX.

p.s. In fact, I wouldn't have it at all because it's too big but that doesn't stop me rather liking it.

I like the fact that they haven’t used the crown guards as well. It gives in a nice vintage vibe.
If the had used pump pushers without the protection as well it would be even better.
Reminds me a a lot of those vintage Sinns and autavias.
I really like what Guinand are doing at the moment.
Most of their news designs are spot on.
I just hope they go from strength to strength.

Not sure what is going on with Longines... their website has all the novelties for 2018, but seem to fail to mention the the LLD is now in 36mm posted on Hodinkee (maybe because its core collection?)

But no sign of this that Jon Bues posted which is lovely.

The Grand Seiko site has been updated with the new releases. It seems that rumours of 9F GMTs were wrong and pictures doing the rounds were fake, so that puts and end to that.

What we do have is 9S Hi-Beats and VFA special editions with a new caliber. Sadly they haven't used the opportunity to get the thickness down below 13mm.

I swear I'm not making this up. On the global Seiko website they have a bit on the news section about the New Anniversary Divers going live.

This is how it is currently posted. Apparently 1968 was only 40 years ago... That means I'm only 25 again. Hooray!

Have to say that's the first watch I've really liked from Baselworld 2018, pretty much perfect.

Agreed, the list on the 1968 reissue is £5,000 but that is a hi-beat

This Green MM300 is an odd one; £2,900 is too much but since they're only making 1968, I suspect you'll struggle to get one for much less than £2,500. Bit like the blue faced ones (which are not nearly as nice as the green one), which never seem to be available for less than about £2,600.

Dunno; I won't be getting one but I might pop into the boutique when they have one to have a look

It's a bit weird that they haven't addressed the thickness issue given that they have released the new 6L35 Presages at <10mm thickness
