    Car insurance any pointers please.

    Car insurance renewal time again.
Been on most of the usual online favourites such as go compare etc.
I have a BMW X3 3 litre which has a couple of modifications.
One is a steering ball on my steering wheel due to me only having one arm,the other is a engine modification increase of bhp plus fuel economy.
My quotes keep coming back at 600 to 650 GBP.
Just thought I would ask if anyone uses someone who could maybe compete with the online sites.
    Regards
    Colin.

Admiral is good especially if you have another vehicle and if you add your house insurance in to the package it brings the car insurance down..

    Greenlight insurance.

Worth a try, they only do modified cars.
When I bought my Saab 9-5 their quote for it modified was much less than I was being offered elsewhere unmodified. The savings were actually greater than the cost of the remap.

Had to cancel with them recently as they could not cover my new un-modified focus. I was paying monthly and had no issues getting a small refund and overall they were great to deal with.

Try a broker Colin. They can often find deals Joe Public can't.
A Plan have been recommended to me a few times.

I tried the comparison sites but this years cheapest was from going straight to Direct Line.

I was with Admiral for a couple of years to cover both our cars using multicar...had a no fault bump (someone smacked one of the cars in my kids school car park but admitted liability etc)..Admiral then bumped up my premium by £400 and wouldn't budge as I was now more of a risk...told them to whistle and went to Direct line who beat my old premium for both cars and weren't fussed by the previous claim...when I had my modified Subaru I used A plan a lot...they were very good

LV are incomprehensible - I always get horribly uncompetitive quotes from them and yer others seem to find them remarkably affordable.

There seems no logic to them (even moreso than car insurance in general!)

LV, Saga, Direct Line or independent broker.

Don't auto renew with LV though. A couple of years ago they quoted me £130 to auto-renew. I went back through their site and it was £97.

They've been pretty good for me for the last few years although like many people my insurance has risen this year from £275 to £360, that's for a Mercedes c63. Online quotes and speaking to a few ins companies couldn't beat their price for the same cover so I've stayed with them.

Have you tried bewiser? They’re advertising all over the place and are a broker.

You need a specialist insurer for modified cars rather than the High Street insurers. Try Adrian Flux, Chris Knott or Brentacre.

I was with Adrian Flux for years when I had modified Skodas (remaps, suspension upgrades, etc.) and they were pretty much the cheapest I could get.

I must really be doing something wrong, 37 years old, 14 years no claims (although noticed a lot now list as just 9+), Volvo XC60 FWD Diesel and the cheapest I got a couple of weeks ago was £440.

Rating is very complex there could be many reasons for the high prices. Occupation is a major factor as a simple example.

    Thanks to all.

The best I have for the car is 595 with all the extras plus only £250 excess.
This is with A plan but still looking.
House insurance is with the same broker at 229 a saving of 70 on my renewal.

Once again thanks for your replies.

    45 years old, 17 years NCB, 2009 Mazda 6 Estate, £500.

Parked on the street in East London though. I'm sure if I moved to the sticks it would be about £150

Any disability equipment shouldn’t affect your premium.

I never progressed it further but I did consider a remap/upgrade and assumed that the insurers would hammer the premium. I always do the price comparison sites and my old model 330D cost me £450/475 last renewal - with no modifications.

    Agree try flu.
Also due to the issue with your arm speak to others on forums etc as sure they’ll be specialists

Yep, Wifey and I both with LV - the major issue with them is that you always have to do a new quote as a new customer each year as the renewal price is always sky high compared to what you were paying, but each year they have matched the new customer price for both of us - and it is always cheaper than anywhere else for both of us.

Absolutely - as a sports coach my premium changes massively if I select "sports coach - professional sports" vs "sports coach - non-professional sports"

I believe having a PhD or honorary doctorate is a big benefit as putting your title as Dr can make big savings on premiums.
