    Birch & Gayden Trench Watch

    Hi all,

I recently discovered a Trench watch with the Retailers name on the dial reading Birch & Gayden Ltd

Can anybody tell me what the watch is worth? a few jewellers and a watchmaker have tried to make offers and they range from £20 to £100 I’m not really interested in selling it like that as I believe it to be quite a nice piece. However my suspicions have been aroused to its potential worth as one chap has been overly persistent and quite frankly rude. Of course I could be paranoid and the watch could be worth nothing!

    Any help greatly appreciated!IMG_4860.JPGIMG_4861.JPG

I think we'll need better photos (and probably not via the app as they seem to be rather low resolution). It looks like a nicely decorated movement but I see it's missing the crown so it's a non-runner. This could be an easy thing to fix or it could be a complete money pit - that probably explains the variance in the offers you've had.

I haven't been tracking trench watch prices for a couple of years but I'm sure there are others here who have. We need better pictures.
    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

The movement is a nice Tavannes with perlage.

Check the hallmarks if silver. The link below has another link at the bottom for imported case marks.

Also, David Boettcher has a nice write up about Birch & Gaydon trench watches here.

Yes the crown is missing un-fortunately, but the movement seems fine, I’m no expert! Definitely would need a service

Thanks for the link, I’ve checked the case and the buckle on the strap and it’s definitely hall marked. So silver for sure. It might be possible that the strap is even original
