With your £1.3m CETV why not try one out and let us know?

    Actually, don’t bother.

    Have you considered an MX5?

Mate has one, it replaced his Bentley GTC - he really likes it and it seems up to almost daily use in summer. I haven’t asked about running costs though.

Serious question... do people that own something like this even consider running costs?

They do. Well, I do. However, given that a seven year service package is included, as is a (minimum) 2 year warranty, and with insurance at £750 pa - what is to worry about? Minimal depreciation if you choose the right car.

Im sure a lot do. My mate isn’t a millionaire, he just really like his cars. I’m fairly sure if the running costs were astronomical he would be running a different expensive car.

I think the California could be a good future buy in Ferrari terms. The newer cars with long service included must surely affect the used prices of the slightly older models though?

I would guess it’s the non warranty items that would make the eyes water, tyres, clutches, brakes.

Indeed, but for 12/24 months of very low mileage use, in what would be a franchise supplied car, there would be minimal wear and tear.

You are paying what??? I pay just over £200 for a Boxster S, quoted £470 for a 911 Turbo and £850 for an i8 BMW.

Friend had a Ferrari loaner for a few days, it's a very good car, makes a great noise, gearbox is easy to live with, didn't bite back, comfortable with the roof down, looked great in white. Only real concern being a front engined Ferrari was how far the value would fall.

    Meh, then what's the point?

Also, "Minimal depreciation if you choose the right car." Sure.

Also, hey, OP, I drew you a graph. (based on rough averages of the first few cars to come up for each year on Autotrader UK).

At what point are you thinking of getting on and off this £10k a year slide?

  31. #31
10k a year is better than most BMWs

Tyres aren't too bad to be honest. Last set we fitted were around £250 a pop if memory serves.
Obviously, not cheap but you could stand a £500 tyre bill every now and then I'd guess.

Because I can is the answer to your first question. And yes, £10k pa on a £150k car is acceptable imho. Thanks for the insight though.👍

    California,

Have you driven one yet? Before you decide drive a 458 as well.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Thanks. I am trying to shortlist cars for my next trip to the U.K. with a view to trying/buying then. I am not looking to get into an out-and-out sports car, rather a fast GT convertible. Hence the 458, which in any event is a tad pricey in Spider form, misses the target as does a McLaren. Other possibilities are a 991.2 Targa GTS4 (too safe), AMG GT Roadster (too brash), AM V12 Vanquish (a bit lardy). Not sure what else.

Other than the Ferrari badge they have little in common, completely different cars, and I have driven both, the California would be much easier to live with, assuming it's not a toy.

If you can, try a maclaren 650 or 720s, they are both better than the current Ferrari offerings but the 720 moves the game on, the clever suspension is something to experience, I'd say all of the other manufacturers are now playing catch up and you could use it every day if you wanted to.

So good to hear that you are coming back, I'll phone Heathrow and ask them to widen the arrivals gate to allow your head to pass though.

Did you say 650? This is rather nice, and local to me.

The 720 is getting a lot of rave reviews since Top Gear a couple of weeks ago. A real everyday useable Supercar
