    New Toy - Nixon Regulus

So, was I swayed by the ‘designed by Special Forces operatives’ spiel?

Maybe, but I ‘needed’ a new rugged Quartz, here it is:

Looks quite nice, I'd wear one.

Regulus was the Roman consul whose eyelids were cut off by the Carthaginians so the sun would blind him.

Obviously not especially watch relevant, but my internet Tourette's sometimes won't let me not post.

I’m not a fan of square Quartz digital watches.

I really like that though; it looks somehow even more robust than a G-Shock!

Took ages to get an illuminated shot as the screen only lights up for 2 secs at a time. I can even disable the backlight and alarms if I want to go ‘stealth’

I quite like that, like a modern variant of a classic Casio !

I don’t really get why these exist when equivalent Casio offerings are so good? And by good I mean incredibly cheap, tough and functional, especially the solar/atomic variants. I know your special forces comments were tongue in cheek, and it looks pretty cool - but for the Walter Mitty crowd, Casio also seem to be the genuine choice of the military? - all that aside, I’d be interested in a non illuminated shot, as the negative be screened Casio 5600’s /5610’s are pretty hard to read without bright light

I think Nissan Regulus would be a good name for a car
    Like the watch too

Apart from the fact it 'makes you look like you know what you're doing out in the woods' and so on which we can poke fun at, what really is nice that it has so little extraneous writing on the case, whereas Casios tend to have a lot of writing and look very busy.

    edit

... although I now see the 5600 you refer to is quite discreet!
