Picked this up at the weekend. Today feels like a day for datejust appreciation! Sorry for blurry pics IMG_0077.JPGIMG_0086.JPG

This is a current 41mm version, with Jubilee bracelet. I think the Datejust is still under-rated. For me, it is the 'core' model of the entire Rolex range.

My favourite 16200
I’ve just noticed the t swiss t dial. 1601.
These are beautiful. Its a big birthday for me in 3 years time, so I think a DJ will be on the list! Loving the blue and black dials with simple batons. Elegant.
I bought mine new back in 1984 . . .

One thing this thread has highlighted is that, for me, a DJ has got to have a fluted bezel.
I used to think that but found the WG fluted bezel impractical for daily wear (too easy to damage) but I found the watch as a whole (steel, WG fluted bezel, silver stick dial) not quite dressy enough for a dress watch.
For a dress watch I think TT or full YG with fluted bezel makes sense.
For a daily wearer I now think the domed bezel is more suitable than WG.
It’s a pity they don’t still do a steel engine-turned bezel which would be the ideal compromise.
Can the fluted bezels be replaced when serviced? If so, how wincingly expensive are they?
Essentially, the fluted bezel makes the watch look more 'traditional'....old fashioned if you like. I prefer the sleeker, less fussy look of the smooth bezel . It would be interesting to know which sells best.
'
To me the biggest driver is not whether the bezel is fluted or not, it is that the dial has batons. Batons are just plain cool.
Yes, batons are modern and clean looking....(makes the watch sound like a new kitchen.) I find the Roman numerals crowd the dial. Simplicity works with this design. For me anyway. The Datejust needs to escape from the whole 'old man' image.
Mind you, I'm in my late sixties, so what I think 'cool'.....isn't.
My 1603 from 1974
Not a fan of the jubilee bracelet and so I wear it on a nice black leather strap.

Whats the actual definition of a Datejust, over say the plain Oyster Perpetual Date? I know the DJ usually has a fluted bezel, and the Jubilee bracelet, are there any other major differences?
16220
Sapphire crystal
Quickset date
Engine-turned bezel
It’s a beauty , enjoy . Timeless design . Such a classic watch

Not being able to sleep one night, I counted the varieties of Datejust in the Rolex catalogue. About four hundred choices.
In this little thread you can see just how varied this model can be....far more so than any other Rolex. Which helps explain it's enduring popularity.....choice.
Always feel right on the wrist.
It went for its first service (to celebrate being thirty years old) to Rolex last summer, and came back looking new (with new crystal). But, to be fair, it had survived almost completely unscathed prior to that -- including gardening, car mechanics, and motor sport and skiing "misadventures", not to mention having been worn in most parts of the world (including Detroit, Sao Paulo, Jo'burg, Rome and Mexico City!).
Whatever it's made of, it is very robust indeed.

Returned the watch I originally posted...couldn't get one with the rattly links. Replaced it with the new 116200

Great thread! I picked up a ghost dial DJ last year, must take pictures and start sharing in the forum again.
I will be purchasing a pre-owned date adjust sometime later this year but cannot decide on fluted or domed bezel. I will probably go for a 36mm case as I have smallish wrists for a bloke. The domed bezel to me looks simple, clean and elegant, the fluted bezel as already mentioned looks more traditional. Can owners advise please, is the fluted bezel damaged easily when worn as a day to day watch (obviously no DIY in the garage etc !!) if so then the domed bezel it is.
I always own a few DJ's.
Love the size for my smaller wrists:
Love mine. These are the Sales Corner pics that convinced me to buy it...
Ha!
That’s also an old one from me.
Think one of the best 1600’s I ever had!
Great case and bracelet
