    Creed Aventus................Hmmmm !

After a huge number of recommendations on various threads here, I've finally tried a tester of Creed Aventus in John Lewis and compared this to a small phial from Scent Samples. It's very nice indeed.
But with something so expensive, always worried that it has the potential to be messed with in decanting, rebottling etc. yet first impressions to my non-professional nose is that they seem exactly the same, so a good start.

Price-wise though, I feel something must be amiss here and casting no aspersions of course, really don't understand the relative pricing between the two retailers.

In simple terms, a 50ml bottle from John Lewis is £170 (same £170 price in House of Fraser). Yet Scent Samples is just £96 for an equivalent sized bottle (and postage included in that !).
Appreciate that Scent Samples might use a cheaper bottle, but nothing that would account for such a price saving surely ? As well, ignoring profit margins for a moment, it seems fair to say that there is no way Scent Samples would have the huge buying power and discounting of John Lewis. So how does this pricing work ?

A cynic might say that the Aventus is being diluted before resale at SS and so perhaps "goes a little further" for the retailer, but I don't want to believe that and I've read various web chats that refute this.

So I guess I'm asking if there might be anyone on here who might have tried both and can speak for similarities/differences between what seems to be the same product, but at hugely differing prices, between the two retailers. Dealing with the obvious first, does anyone know if the product from SS lasts as long when worn during the day or is it a little under strength ?

Happy to give SS my custom, so if anyone has a steer on why or how this pricing works, I'd be very grateful and before I part with my hard earned cash, as I just want to understand this ?

I bought one from the Creed Boutique in Vegas and also from SS - others might disagree but I could notice the difference.

A good scent for £20 but not a patch on Adventus. You need to apply it 5 times a day too

This, in a nut shell. Whatever you get from SS won’t be in a Creed bottle or packaging. I’ve seen lots of people doing this on eBay too.

Personally I wouldn’t buy a rebottled scent, but different strokes for different folks and all that.

I have found no difference with SS splits over the branded bottle (in fact I had one branded bottle from JL which seemed a bit lacklustre).

    Same with Green Irish Tweed.

Same with Tom Ford Tuscan Leather.

I guess they could be watering it diwn wiyh their own mixed versions of the scents but in that case they must be so close they could make more money branding their own versions and selling them.

There are loads of Aventus clones that are much cheaper and get pretty close.

I wonder if a few of is should get together and do our own splits. I guess bunches of 10 of us could do 50ml splits for different scents.

If palmolive on basenotes is doing 50ml of Aventus for £55 then Scent Samples have no reason to water down their splits. The profit margin is already decent.

500ml is £595 on Creeds website. 10way split with bottkes and pistage wouldn’t be any more than maybe £65 ???

I’d be up for Aventus and GIT as they are my usual pongs. £130 for both is a significant saving even iver scent samples . Brings em down to almost normal fragrance prices.

Actually I dimly remember buying from France a couple of years ago and it was even cheaper. Although the 500ml is not always available.

I would be happy to do the organising and decanting but unfortunately I’m usually travelling all over the place for work.

Found two places that are popular in France : 500ml of Aventus is €488 , both are out if stock though.

I’m up for a 50ml split of Aventus and GIT if anyone fancies it (might even do 100ml of each). Maybe Viking too as a 50ml.

Not sure if its against the forum rules though and no way I could organise it. I’m away for UK too much.

My bad! I was always under the impression it was London based.

Seriously big thank you for everyone that has replied to my OP.

I think its pretty clear to me now that with the discounts available from the various 500ml flacons being bought, that there is more than enough margin for Scent Samples to play with, so absolutely no need to dilute down or mess with the concentrations. In fact, it would be pretty stupid to do so as would destroy their entire business model if they were ever found out and let's face it, it would be pretty easy for someone to check.

And a potential on-forum cooperative ahead for further purchase perhaps. Good thread outcome all round I'd say !

    Again, thanks all. Reassured.

Bit of a creed lover with Aventus, GIT and Viking donning the ensuite.

In the overall scheme of things is the cost of the real deal that much of a prob, you don’t need to splash it like brut after all. Mine lasts well and the saving would be negligible over a year.

    Fakes hey, who would????

In September in Vegas I had a particularly good night in the casino (paid for the whole trip plus a bit more). Next morning wandering through the Forum shops at Caesar's and feeling a bit flush, happen on the Creed Boutique (all glass) and think to myself 'I'll have a bit of that Aventus malarkey that they go on about on TZ'. Bottle sizes were small, medium and large - large there being 120mm. can't remember exactly what I paid but I'm sure it was over $400.

    They clearly saw me coming!

Oh well, teach me to win and fritter it :-)

Even with the 5 applications it’s way less than half the price @RRP! A fair point, but, even expensive scents aren’t guaranteed to last for ages.. and my recommendation last pretty well...

Carthusia scents tend to be the best in my collection for their ‘lingering factor’

Well I tend to wear GIT during the day and Aventus at night . I reckon I go through 100ml of both over 12-18months.

Also I think I’d be considering some others Tom Ford Tuscan Leather is one I also wear less commonly as its incredibly strong .

As for doing a split I’d say its easy enough. Bottles and syringes/pippettes are available cheap on amazon. Measuring out 5 or 10 splits packing it up would be an easy job , say 2-3 hours tops.

Probably add 5-10quid onto the split price including postage and packing.

I’m unable to do this fellas as I work all over ( Thailand right now). Otherwise I’d be happy to.

I'd be interested in a split too if it goes ahead - GIT and Aventus.

Why not just pay £55 with Palmolive and save all the hassle?

True but I don’t know the basenotes crowd whereas I do have a smattering of familiarity with the tzuk crowd. Could do either of course.

No skin off my nose either way but you'd be hard pressed to find a better price or service.

Presumably you can get small containers suitable for the purpose? I'm happy to have a go at splitting one of them but I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing apart from taking a top off, decanting small quants, recapping and posting?? If anyone wants to fill in any gaps there then fire away. If anyone else is offering then I'd be in for a split of both.

    or better...?

Edited to say that I’ve not received any interest in a split by pm so am withdrawing the offer to organise one.

Yup thats the gist of it.
However davida does have a valid point about just throwing in with palmolive on basenotes.

Ive participated in countless splits that Palmolive has arranged and all have been great.

Its a great way to build up a nice little collection without breaking the bank but can get addictive.

Just jump straight in. Make sure you keep an eye out for a payment request if the bottle has to be ordered, as late payment will hold the split up.

Hopefully he'll do another split of Cedrat Boise in the near future. This is one that I highly recommend if you like the Aventus vibe. It's also one that gets an unbelievable amount of compliments.
Ive now got a full bottle but if you request it I'm sure he'll oblige.
