    Removing the movement

I would like relume the hands of two of my watches and for this I need to remove the movements. From what I understand the first step is removing the crowns.
Could somebody please tell me how should I proceed with this two movements?

Be VERY CAREFUL with the gilt/gold rotor Eta movement, the keyless works is tricky for a beginner.

Is the top movement a Miyota or Seiko etc?

No offence - but if your not sure how to remove the movement I think you’ll struggle with luming a set of hands - you’ll need to remove and refit them and a half decient lume is tricky

The top one is a Ricoh.

Yes, but everybody has to start from somewhere.
In my case the Ricoh is a £15 watch, so not a drama if it won't end up perfect.

This should be the stem release:

Correct.....but be VERY careful when doing this. Looks like an ETA 2824 (or a copy). Two things to remember: The watch must be in handset position, and a 1.0mm screwdriver must be used in the slot. This is to prevent the yoke becoming disengaged from the sliding clutch, if this happens you'll need to strip the dial side down to put it right. It can be done by removing the barrel bridge instead but it's a tricky job.

I don`t think there's a repairer on the planet who hasn`t had problems with this at sometime. Even taking the precautions outlined it can be tricky, you have to be careful when re-inserting the stem. Press gently and twist slightly to get the square section to engage on the sliding clutch....and pray that the yoke doesn`t slip. If this happens the stem won`t go in no matter how hard you try.

ETA 2824's bad for this, ETA 2892's not as bad but it can happen.....but the daddy of them all is the Omega 1480.

Stem release should be that "dot" you see. But don't press it to hard, you'll ruin the keyless works otherwise.
