    Square/TV style watches

Ever since posting this thread http://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.ph...Square+Watches

I’ve got thinking about square/rectangular/TV style Watches
    Never owned one - ever......

So, with this in mind - what Watches would you recommend vintage or current ?
    Please post pics/links :)

Why not go the whole hog and have an *actual* TV watch?

    A bit too severe...

Omega certainly did some lovely square watches ... were they from the 1970’s ?

Bought this 1973 TV dial Omega last year quite cheap, I had all the intention to sell it on but it’s really grown on me, might treat it to a service and light restoration as they don’t make em like this anymore..

I like that, particularly the lugs which aren't hidden like some are.

Don’t know if it’s the type of shape you’re asking about but Magrette watches are really nice. Wish they were 40mm instead of 42mm

I like this thread as I hadn't realised there was a seam waiting to be mined.
A lot seem from 1960's/70's which is when I basically grew up but I cannot seem to recall these types of watches then;probably just interested in school/poly/exams/girls - so much time obviously wasted.
Thanks to the OP for starting the thread.

There’s a cracking 70s Zenith El Primero hopefully still on the forum somewhere.

    Your welcome
Some seriously cool TV style Watches out there.... I think they are well overdue a revival.

I've always liked the Heuer Monaco, Blue dial. Think it was made quite famous by some actor chappie.

It is a GO Seventies Panorama date:

    https://www.glashuette-original.com/...39-47-12-12-14

the dial changes colour in different lights and has the one of the best bracelets available IMHO, quite complex in its link structure but super smooth and adjustable without taking the watch off. You will take a bath on RRP and servicing is not cheap.

Always been tempted by the GO 70s Pano, but very nervous about a 40mm square watch on my small wrist. I think someone in Glasgow stocks GO so keep meaning to go try one on. Looks ok on you - what's your wrist size?

A smidgeon over 7". Its relatively slim at 11mm IIRC. A square watch will always have a bit more dial area but I think the bracelet shape tempers this. I don't really wear big watches. This might help with some size comparison, GO is listed at 40mm, PAM at 45mm, PO at 42mm. I think 42mm is compatible in terms of round vs square:

Many thanks for the reply. The 45mm PAM is a smidge too large for me so the GO is still a possibility. Must get on with that trip to the AD in Glasgow!

I have this 70's Sekonda day-date that belonged to my father. It originally had a bracelet but i think that after it broke it ended up in a drawer for years until I rescued it. Here it is fitted with a TF Rally strap.

If you go down the vintage route I was going to suggest a Seiko Monaco, I've just had a look on a well know auction site at them & I can't believe how much they have gone up! A few years ago they seemed to be unloved & you had difficulty giving them away. Now they appear to be anything between £600 - £900.....good luck;-)

Thanks. Quite possibly the exact watch you were referring to as well as it came to me from another forum member.
