Thread: Precista PRS-18Q goes diving

    Precista PRS-18Q goes diving

Some various pics of the imminent PRS-18Q taken above and below the waterline.

The diving was fitted into a long trip and was an intense three days of tech stuff, not ideal really for doing watch photography so I did some snorkelling and above water shots.

    Flight time.

At this level of diving reliability is paramount, everything is checked and checked again, there's no room for error. The PRS-18Q scored highly as it has a very positive bezel click, all 120 of them.

    Photobombed by a moray.

It spent too much time in airplanes (14 time zones in total).

    Surface interval.

Clownfish are never impressed with anything new.

Model wants to try it on.

Can't stop them posing at times.

    Unlikely bedfellows.

Snorkelling with jellyfish. Lots of 'em.

My safety diver gets to try it out.

    Back to surface.

I'll leave it to others to review theirs when they receive them but I'll simply say this: it's a great watch.

    R

    PS

Several members on here are aware of my recent travels, but for those who suspected I always have 5* hotels involved here's a recent place I stayed in.

To say SWMBO wasn't impressed would be an understatement (no toilet/running water/electricity) but the view...

When I saw the initial underwater shots in another thread, I wondered if you'd had a hand in it.

    Nice pics Ralphy.

Would you say the lume looks that creamy yellowish colour in real life? It looks like vintage lume to me. I asked in the other thread if it's vintage lume but didn't get an answer.

Fabulous pics and a nice little pre-review to get us even more excited about it.

Love the locations and the pics.

Anything else you want to share about the watch at the moment?

PS Looks good on the lady. I can see my wife borrowing it too.

This is a phone pic I took for white balance, it's fairly representative of the lume shade although the hue does change according to the ambient light.

Might just be the angle of the picture, but it looks like the second hand is hitting those markers dead on. Always nice to see.

It's not an illusion, the second hand does hit the markers spot on. Although I've always regarded this as a bit of a bonus, given I've had several high-calibre quartz watches that didn't.

Cool stuff as usual Ralph. But that shack!!, how could you do that to her? The shack in Death in Paradise looks 5* compared to it ;)

There's two on the BCD, one on the camera housing and another on the weight belt - and they're all yours. :-)

i had the previous model and moved it on quite quickly - combination of the "it's only a quartz" thing and the plain dial - but the new movement and extra script on the dial fix those issues ... plus the wife keeps pestering me about what I want for my birthday (and it's in the right price bracket) so I'll be giving it another try ..

I thought that . I also thought if people wanted one of those cwc re-issue vintage things then this is a no brainier for a similar military dive watch . It’s in the vein but without that 2k price tag ( minus the auto movement) .

I know you've used several of Eddie's watches for diving Ralph, have you found that one is better for the purpose at all ? I'm thinking that with the travelling involved (thinking GMT hand) and the screwed bars (suitably thread locked of course!) for security, then the Voyager might be a good choice for this type of activity.

PS. You should be getting that motor finished instead of messing about plodging around in water! ;-)

I'll give a brief explanation of the rig.

The aim of tech diving is to go deeper and for that you need 1) more air and 2) more time.

    1) More air is supplied by the two tanks at the front:

    2) More time is needed in order to decompress and (one way) that's done is by breathing pure oxygen, that's the two tanks at the rear (green valve handle).

Tech diving needs high safety and part of that is achieved by building in backup wherever possible, so every tank has it's own regulator.

It can get messy so you need to be as tidy as you can, this is my friend on a rebreather but you can get the general idea.

You got it in one, Bob: the Voyager is my 'go-to' watch for dive travelling.

However, a NATO-shed watch makes a lot of sense when diving (for several reasons) and the convenience of quartz is a plus too, so the PRS-18Q will now be with me in the future.

PS Don't mention the car, Pike.

Cool! I am more excited about this watch than I have been for any other for ages. Not really sure why. Maybe its because I've been looking for a go-anywhere, do anything, pick up and go, take the knocks watch for a while.

Either way, I'm looking forward to it! You can guess what'll be on the 'Friday' thread this week.

    Ordered mine today from Eddie

I haven’t posted in ages. Good to be back.

    The PRS-18Q looks a beauty.

My first watch purchase in a loooooong time!

Looking forward to getting it on my wrist.

    Kind regards

    pix upload

Doubt I'll get it on Friday though. Royal Mail seems to be taking some time off due to the snow in the Cumbernauld area. Deliveries from other companies have been ok.

I'm sticking with the strap it comes on but might get a thick green canvas type strap later on and maybe some other TF natos.

I've no access to my computer, but from memory the last one was a bit over 330ft and about 100min. (Feet because I was diving with an American).

The amount of watch (both good looking and practicable) you are getting for the price is just outstanding.

Has there ever been any other COSC certified watch at this price?

Tissot use a Precidrive movement in these range of watches...

    https://www.watch.co.uk/tissot-chron...6173604700.htm

    The movement is this...

    https://www.eta.ch/en/our-products/q...graph-g10212ad

Don't think those Tissot come with certification and they don't advertise it as a Precidrive. Maybe because Swatch want eyes on the Certina Precidive range.

The Tissot has a higher RRP than the PRS18Q but shop around and it's under £250.

COSC (short certificate) costs £30 and I didn't apply any margin to this part of the costs. The Tissot doesn't have a NATO Stock Number

I'm looking forward to seeing the grey NATO that it comes on. It seems to be a darker grey than other greys.

Rubber or a two-piece green nylon that I bought from Eddie a few years ago. Have been waiting for another watch to fit it to since I sold the one it was originally bought for.
