    Grand Seiko - New purchase

Not a major poster on the forum, as I’m a big Bremont fan and get enough abuse from the wife to offer opinion on many of the topics on here!

So, I have been looking to add to my collection and had a number of desired items on the shortlist, including the Zenith El Primero Chrono Open 42mm and Glashutte Pano Reserve, both of which are spectacular pieces.

However, tucked away in a corner, away from the bright lights and advertising was a collection of Grand Seiko watches, including the Snowflake, but standing out among them all was the GS SBGJ227G, otherwise known as the green one...or the peacock dial according to GS. Limited to 700 worldwide, Hi-Beat with the GMT what’s not to like!

There’s a lot of love for Seiko and Grand Seiko on the forum and the history, movements and quality are a major factor when comparing to other brands.

Anyway, here’s some shots of the new purchase, apologies for the picture quality, light wasn’t the best!

I managed to pick it up from James Porter and Sons in the Argyll Arcade...the danger with that is it’s like gauntlet of top end watches from the Buchanan St entrance!

In London this week, planning to visit the GS store and the Bremont Townhouse event

That is truly stunning right up my street. The finishing on in it is superb. Absolute stunner. Keep meaning to get to the Seiko boutique but keep rubbing outbid time whenever I head into London.

I've got the same watch but with the red/brown dial. It's a really well made, well-finished watch with a great movement. However my favourite really is "the green one", the SBGJ005

These GSs are amazing. The attention to dial design is way above many manufacturers. They look very special.

I am not normally a fan of green dials but having seen one of these in Porter's, Glasgow, I was smitten. The dial colour is rather stunning.

That is very nice, think that was the version that won awards back in 2014...wouldn’t mind seeing that in the flesh

The very one I purchased, exact same, had a browse in the window and took a couple of weeks but eventually went in and bought it, nice collection of GS watches in stock

They had it inside their shop during the Seiko Prospex Exhibition. I was impressed with it.

Nice collection as you said. Five or six years ago the nearest I got to a GS up here was a trip to York.

It's a great looking watch, but to me it felt like a little bit small. Maybe the lugs or the thickness, but something didn't feel right.
