Thread: Discontinued Seikos

The SARB's here will come back very similar but with 4R36 movements. 6R15 based watches have been moved upmarket over the last 3-4 years and these are the remaining anomalies in their range that hung on because they have been staples and great sellers.

Shame to see the MM300 go but again, I think this is coming tweaked and moved upmarket (in terms of price).

No Tuna with that designation that I’m aware of.But unless I’m mistaken odd numbers are SS (i.e SBDX001, SBDX017 etc), and even numbers indicate other metals.

Yeah, my mate was dithering about whether he should get one or not. I told him to just do it quick even if he just puts it in a drawer for a couple of years. Sent him the link and noticed it said 'last one'. Gone now.

I think the post below is right, they'll reissue a version of the 033/035, but with the 4R15 or 4R36 movements and maybe Hardlex?

The worry for me there is Seiko phasing themselves out of that piece of the market where for me they exceed - the quality for <500 area, making a quality Seiko more unattainable.

Citywide still seem to be selling them on eBay for £270 but with a delivery date of mid to late April. Why such a long delivery date when they are based in Ireland??

I had wondered if Seiko was going to have continued access to GS movements (like the 8L) since the companies split. Perhaps that is an issue in the MM300 being retired?

    It has.

Grand Seiko is now running as its own entity. I have no idea how much they will continue to share components going forward.

This is seriously the first mention I've heard of a structure change within Seiko, as opposed to their taking the SEIKO logo off the dials. Have you a link I could read? (genuine, non-sarcastic question)

Maybe there's none left in Ireland and they're waiting for a 'consignment' to arrive ?

Thanks. They don’t seem to have the greatest of feedback on eBay after looking into them more closely. Customer service seems pretty poor.
Even for £270 inc. shipping asking price I’m sceptical.

SeiyaJapan have them back in stock but it’s £317 + import tax so its going to work out around £380 all in.

I really like the Sarb033 but I’m wondering what it will be replaced with. My gut feeling is that it will be replaced with a similar version but with the 4r movement and I’ll regret it but then on the other hand, a better propersition may come up. Who knows!

No, figured it would just be refunded anyway. They wont honor that price!

They were fraudulent listings from compromised eBay accounts - as I should have realised myself before pressing the button...

Well you know what they say; If something’s too good to be true then it most probably is...

Have to say I’m really glad I picked up a MM300 from Gnomon a few weeks ago. No idea if the rumours are true about a possible price hiked replacement or if the replacement would have the prospex ‘X’ on the dial. But if either rumours are true then the outgoing MM300 will be a cherished model for current owners.

I think they will definitely be replaced, but imo I think it’ll have the inferior 4r movement instead of the 6r15. This is why I grabbed one whilst I could.
