Modding a Seiko - who to use?

I've got a Seiko SKX011 on its way to me - this one.

I'll reserve final judgement till I've seen it, but the one thing it seems to me that it needs is black edged hands instead of gold edged so that they match the plots.

Is there anyone who could obtain and fit these if I decide it needs them?

Yobokies is the place to get the hands from. Google his photobucket gallery and then email him - Harold Ng - on yobokies@yahoo.com.hk

As to getting them fitted, I'd be interested to hear who can do that on here - I'm looking to mod my spb051 with the sla17 hands and ceramic bezel insert yobokies is doing soon...so in need of a modder also

I am sure there are several on here who could change hands, dials and inserts etc for you once sourced. Yobokies and Dagaz both have comprehensive websites.

I'm idle and prefer to buy the watch already sorted.

TBH and imo I don't understand why people should spoil a nice looking watch.

If it's not broken, then why mend it.

I agree about the Seiko & I'm not sure why Seiko fitted gold hands against an orange dial???

Why don't you buy the parts you want & have a go at fitting them yourself? It's all part of the fun of owning a modified watch & there's a definite sense of achievement when you modify a watch successfully :)

There are plenty of online tutorials showing you how to do it. You will need some specialist tools though - fine tweezers/forceps, a case back opener & hand puller at the very least. Bry1975 (who's a member on here) can supply a non-marking case back tool to fit the Seiko you want to modify or you could buy a generic multi fit one. I have a couple of Bry's case back openers & they're excellent. I also have one of the multi-fit ones which isn't the best but does the job OK. I also have a hand puller (essential really) but it's a pretty old one & I could do with replacing it really. I fit hands (not always successfully it has to be said) by pressing them on with the insert out of a biro (using the opposite end to the nib obviously!). Inexpensive hand presses are available which I've thought about buying but it's just more stuff to find a home for & the biro insert has always worked OK for me so I've never got round to buying one. You'll be glad to hear that I only work on my own watches!

This is one I successfully modified recently. It's a lefty crown Citizen Promaster which I bought through the forum.

    It started off like this:

    & ended up like this:

I modified an SKX171 by fitting it with the movement, dial, hands etc from this:

So it ended up like this (Bry beadblasted the SKX171 case/bezel for me):

This Pulsar 200m diver started out like this:

& eventually, after many variations, ended up like this (Bry got the case, bezel, crown & caseback DLC coated on this one for me):

I have another couple of modified watches, a Seiko 6309-7040 & a Seiko Monster (waiting for a new crown/stem for this one) but don't have pictures of them unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your point of view about modified watches)! Go on - have a go yourself :)

    Why would it spoil it?

Agree it's not broken, but neither am I trying to mend it - just make it look better.

These are the hands I'd like, can anyone suggest a source? (The link above didn't have these).

    Many thanks.

I have that very watch. Perfect as it is. At least to me.

Any competent watchmaker can change hands out if you supply them. Just do a google search for your area. If it is more you want then i am sure the recommendations already here will sort you out.

I recently used Duarte at NEWW (North East Watch Works) in the states who changed the movement out of my SKX011 and replaced it for a 4R36 as the 7S26A in it was in need of a service and i decided i wanted a hand winding and hacking movement. (Hands stayed original though!)
    I would recommend him.

I cannot believe how hard this is! I tracked down some hands that look perfect, although there is zero information as to what size they are or what they fit.

    http://photobucket.com/gallery/user/...DI0NQ==/?ref=1

They seem to be sold by some mysterious figure called Yobokies. However it seems Yobokies has no web site...

I eventually managed to track down an Ebay page that seems to be linked to him, but it just had straps on it, no hands. So I've pretty much given up on this source and am back to the drawing board.

If anyone can guide me to some plain black edged Sword hands that will fit a Seiko SKX011 that I can simply order and buy (radical I know), I really would be most grateful.

Yobokies is Harold Ng, some dude who makes those mod parts and sells them. The link you posted is his photobucked which shows all his items. I think best just contact him by email:

    yobokies@yahoo.com.hk

I have found him extremely helpful , just tell him what you're after and he'll guide you.

No affiliation and haven't yet ordered from him (waiting for his ceramic bezel for sbp051) but have come close several times

Seikoboy (Yobokies backwards)- was the way for me. Excellent job.
Be ready for a very direct email conversation and trawling through the photos is a pain.
    But it's worth the effort.
