Update & Credits.. and an Opinion

    Hi All,

I thought I started today by saying a big THANK YOU! to all of you who has been a companion in my newly discovered passion.. you guys have been able to help me grow my little collection and gain knowledge along the way.. but most importantly, I’ve realised that you don’t need to spend a fortune to be able to enjoy some very nice watches, with interesting mechanics, design and history!

    And now to the update..

My first watch was an OMEGA geneve, which was kindly landed to me by Deckard81

I was in love for that watch for a while, but ultimately I decided to give it back to its rightful owner..
from there I moved on to a TUDOR prince oyster

Which I Adore.. for many different reasons, biggest being the roulette date wheel, and me being a casino dealer, kind of fit! :)
Unfortunately I also, moved this on (even though I’m still hoping that one day it’ll come back to me)..

Moving on.. I decided to take a punt on an OMEGA de ville, which has kind of an interesting story, one that IMO deserves a post of its own (maybe later)

This one it’s still with me, and I’m still indecisive as to whether I should work on it and keep it, or simply get rid of it (more details later)..

Then.. one night while on a break at work, I stumbled upon this AMAZING watch on SC

And that was the moment I truly grasped how much this passion of mine wasn’t simply going away! I LOVE THIS WATCH, and god’s will, it’ll stay with me forever!!

    Lastly (for now)..

I decided, I needed a beater, and so after looking far and wide.. I bought the latest Longines VHP

So far it has served me well, and it has lived up to all my “accurate” expectations.

To sum it up, that’s what my watchbox looks like..

Now, forget about the Apple Watch (>.>)
Which I most definitely get rid of, along with the Tissot t-touch.. i came to the conclusion that at this moment in time, my collection should be made of 3 watches..

    1 beater
    1 casual (dress up/ down)
    1 solid gold dress watch

As you can see, I’m missing the latter from my collection..
I’ve been looking for a while and with a budget of MAX £3000, I would ideally buy either..

A solid gold Omega Constellation Pie-pan dial..
Or, a Universal Geneve polerouter (solid gold)..
    Or, a vintage Rolex two-tone (gold/steel)..

3 very desirable watches in their own right, and for different reasons..
    I haven’t been able to find a Pie-pan (sadly),
But there are a few UG up for sale on the net which are well within my budget, and one vintage Rolex Thunderbird turn-o-graph Aldo within budget..
The point is, I cannot made up my mind now, as to which one I should go for..
The UG is uncommon, and you don’t see them that often, and that alone, has immense value for me.. on the other hand, the Rolex not only is a beautiful watch from a well renowned brand, but is a full set, and its a 38mm, which for a vintage, is there again uncommon!

    Conclusions
I find myself in need of your advice and suggestion once again!

For all of you who took time to read all this, I THANK YOU!

    Bye for now
    Claudio

In my view the first thing on your list should be to get that Tudor back. I've seen them before with that notched bezel and generally not liked them but that one looks very nice indeed.

In terms of a Polerouter I would keep your powder very dry and bide your time - in my view somewhere in the order of a year. You need to enroll on the Universal Geneve forum and your first course of action should be to go through the first sticky: Universal Geneve Watches on Ebay. Once you've done that I'd suggest that you post up, over a few weeks or months, the occasional sample of a watch you are thinking of buying to see whether you have calibrated your eye properly. You will make mistakes but better to do it in the sandpit first; there are so many frankens and re-dials of this model range and spending more is no guarantee of success. Unfortunately the recent rise in values of these, thanks to the wretched Hodinkee amongst others, increases the incentive for the unscrupulous.

Hi Carlton, I wanted to wholeheartedly thank you for your infos.. by reading the sticky I was able to assess that 99% of the polerouter I was looking at, had either a redial, part swapped or well over priced!

About the tudor, it’s lovely I know, but at this moment in time, wouldn’t get any wrist time, and in my mind it won’t fit into the little collection that I’m trying to build.. but never say never, I know exactly who to ask about it though just in case..

    The hunt is still on..

I think that white dial suits the Longines VHP the best of all the options I have seen to date. Could I just ask if it's the 41mm or the 43mm version, also what size your wrist is?

It is the 41, and it sits rather well on my 17cm wrist (even tho the picture was taken at an angle so it doesn’t really shows).. I have a flat wrist, which helps with bigger watches, since I’m used to sub 40 (topically 34-36)

That Tudor is really nice, very surprised reading your initial comment on it that you sold it on. Add it back to your to buy list.

Have values of a solid gold Pie Pan Connie Deluxe in good condition not gone way above 3K?
