Are Sharkskin Leather Watch Straps Water Resistant?

Being that they originally came from a fish?

You don't see too many Rolex Submariners on leather straps, especially amongst wearers who frequent the water. Usually it's a nylon NATO, rubber strap or the stock SS Oyster bracelet. Cow leather is generally a poor choice for aquatic activities. Curious if sharkskin makes any difference.

I do believe some early Panerai sharkskin straps were waterproof
    May be wrong??

Not sharkskin but I have a Dirk Incursore 5218 strap which is seawaterproof to 7000ft for 50hours.

Anonimo ( the original ones ) had a special treatment Kodiak leather strap which they claimed was waterproof. It was however stiff and not very flexible . It’s still possible to buy them .

    From a post on Watchuseek

    Sharkskin is waterproof, no doubt.

The problem is lining. Lining usually is made of regular leather, therefore strap is not waterproof, unless lining is made also waterproof.
    Sums it up pretty well.

The Di Modell sharkskin strap is not bad. The strap is soft and comfortable, wears well in the sun and dry's out fairly quick after getting wet. With their special lining they state waterproof to 100m.

Most animal hides are fairly waterproof when worn by their original owners including our own. I wouldn’t subject any tanned hide to prolonged water exposure though. Why would you when there are better alternatives?

Different brand but Hirsch do a range of 100m water resistant leather straps, Grand Duke is nice.
