Advice for a photo/slide scanner please

I'm looking for a scanner to convert colour slides and prints. They are just the usual amateur standard so I don't need anything top end particularly.

Cheap enough to throw away if it's rubbish (a better than average chance, at that price). I've used Nikon ones professionally, but they're big bucks, even second-hand.
