Posting watches from Russia to U.K.

Having real issues trying to finalise a purchase of a watch I've seen. It's in Russia. Turns out Russian postal services list watches as prohibited items and even checking on chrono24 a jewellers in Moscow said to me "yes I sell you no prob - when are you in Moscow". Who will post from Russia to uk - there must be an answer or Vostok will go out of business - dies anyone know?

What exactly are you trying to buy? I've bought shedloads of (cheap) watches from Russia in the past. I received yet another Vostok from Meranom only about a month or so ago.

I have also had Vostoks and a rather nice 24hr Paketta no problems, I can tell when it has arrived as the parcel is usually covered in Cyrillic text :-)

I had read (I'm sure it was here) that it was a simple fact that Russian postal services were just rife with nicking stuff. Hence the hesitance to send anything expensive in the mail, such as watches. Curious to see if there is a better answer to this, as Chrono24 is often filled with great priced watches from Russia that are just "unbuyable". I wonder why watches would be listed as prohibited?

It's not because some postal services insist that all watches contain batteries, and as such won't ship them internationally? Could be down to a simple bit of paperwork that isn't right.

Oh interesting, why do they require all watches contain battery?

I was asking if that may be the cause, as I'm not sure myself. I know when I posted an auto watch, the person behind the counter at the post office here said that as it was a watch it had to contain a battery, simply couldn't understand that not all watches do! So if there's a system somewhere that flags up watches as containing batteries, that may then prohibit international shipping.

Entirely speculation on my part, but it's the sort of thing that can happen when things aren't looked at on a case by case basis.

I'm curious about this as I often see one particular Moscow shop coming in way under the rest of the market on Chorono24 on quite high end watches. Has anyone had any experiences? As you might imagine I'm concerned about both the shipping and what would happen if you had any issues with the condition or authenticity of the pre-owned McMafia watch in question...

Nope. Vostok Europe are a Lithuanian company. Vostoks are manufactured in Chistopol, Russia and Meranom sends them directly from Chistopol.

    I feel your pain.
    I hope you get it.
I know battery powered devices, watches included, are a "no go" for some zealous postal services but automatics.... I can't see a reason.
