    Incoming My First Rolex

My first Rolex has arrived courtesy of Ryanv. A beautiful submariner 14060m two liner.

It arrived today from Austria after being sent yesterday evening Unbelievably DHL delivered it this morning. I got an email stating that a package arrived. I unfortunately I was teaching so I had to wait an hour or so before I could pick it up.

    This is what awaited me:
    18-02-06-22-52-23-430_deco.jpg

I was super excited although in the back of my head the thread about the light fingered DHL employee made me a little nervous as I saw the repacked tape on the sides and inside the box. However upon opening the box there she sat in all her glory.

Unfortunately I haven't take any wrist shots yet. Sacrilege I know but a busy day has kept me from it. I will rectify that tomorrow and update.
Here is a lume shot from tonight.

And a shot from Ryanv's sale post. (I hope you don't mind Ryan.

    First impressions:
This is a surprisingly elegant watch. Although it has be designed as a tool watch it really struck me how dressy it felt on the wrist. It might be the strap or perhaps the white gold indices but it felt refined sitting under my cuff.

The crown is big and solid and feels like butter to wind. Without a date feature setting the watch was quick and easy. A million miles away from the day date feature on my 69' constellation. The dial is clean and clear and the bezel is reassuringly solid. With a nice audible click as it turns. The triangle point does not line up exactly and while a little irritating I'm not ocd enough to let it ruin this watch for me.

This brings me on to the size of the case. Having started my proper watch collection with a 34mm constellation, I had always thought that 40mm would be my limit. I had also tried on a number of 40mm explorer ii's and felt that it was the sweet spot on size for me at least. The 14060m being of similar proportion to the explorer ii, meant that it should be a perfect match for me. And true to cause it does sit wonderfully on the wrist. It slips neatly underneath the cuff of a shirt, and does not protrude past it unless I pull back my shirt. It was surprisingly descreet, and even if you can believe it, felt under the radar.

This may have been because I've spent almost two weeks wearing my Seiko Samurai Blue Lagoon. A relative monster in comparison to my little Connie. It may well be because I have it on a strap rather than a bracelet that it felt as though it lacked a little guff. This is the only area that I can fault it.

I will try it on the nato tomorrow and see is this makes it feel more sporty. So far it feels a great watch and I'm delighted with the purchase.

Would love to hear from other owners as to weather the bracelet makes it feel my substantial (pun not intended).

    Eoghan.

The ND Submariner has very clean lines, and has a ‘bright’ look about it.

    Enjoy it.

    Very nice incoming.

I think 5 figure subs are the perfect dimensions.

    Congrats on the purchase.

I have tried mine on various straps. Still prefer the bracelet eventually.

Congratulations. There is good reason that the classically proportioned 5 digit reference sports Rolex are popular.

    That looks really nice, congrats.
I think the 2 line no date is the only sub I'd go for, excluding the vintage stuff I can't afford anyway!

Congratulations, great first Rolex. Bet you were like a cat on a hot tin roof waiting for that to turn up 🙂. The bracelet does make it feel more substantial, makes it feel even more classy imo, but a good nato is still a great choice.

    Enjoy 👍🏻

Great choice, you won't regret it. It's a few years since I bought my first Sub and it was the most worthwhile watching purchase I've ever made.

    Congrats. It's a classic.

Nice watch, will look awesome when you get a decent bracelet on it.

  24. #24
A real beauty... hopefully this upcoming Basel will herald a further return to the traditional proportions of the Rolex sports watch, even if the current GMTs, Submariners, and Explorers are still very nice in their own right.

Can't go wrong with a no date sub, and that is a scientific fact. Congrats OP

My first (and only so far) was a 14060M, and still my favourite.

I personally prefer it on a NATO as seems to wear slightly larger in my eyes. Bracelet is nice to dress it up now & again though.

You now own one of the classics - enjoy it!

Glad I could help rekindle the love for this watch. Hasn't been if my wrist since it arrived. Still haven't got it on the nato or perlon, a job for tomorrow perhaps.

Agreed; the bracelet is by far the best option.

And the only acceptable alternative is a NATO strap in a solid colour. :)

I like that combination thanks for posting. It’s one I’ve not tried.

I’ve just ordered a mid grey tweed strap off here they suit it very well in the pictures I’ve seen so will be trying that soon!
