    New Rega turntables

I have a Planar 6 (plus Aria MC) on order, but have been distracted by the look of the RP8 with Apheta 2 MC. Any of the hifi buffs done the comparison?

Surely it’s more about the sound? 😀😀

Indeed. Hence the question. In advance of my making a comparison in two weeks’ time. Always useful to have tips.

I'd be surprised if both the Planar 6 and the Ania weren't at least as good as the RP8 and Apheta 2 that they are based on. The P6 is a built on nearly the same Tancore 8 foam and laminate sandwich as the RP8. The Ania is a near clone of the Apheta 2 in a glass fiber reinforced plastic chassis replacing the milled aluminum one. The same is true for the tonearms, the RB808 being a high tolerance version of the lower cost RB330. And they've had a few years to improve the design of each. All in, they are very similar setups.

I know my uggrade addiction, so bought the 8 now rather than in six months’ time!

I don't rate their carts though, I had a bias and elys which were nowhere near as good as offerings from ortofon/sumiko that I had later on.
    Bit tricky demoing carts though.

Perhaps you needed to try their more modern MC cartridges? A step up from the MMs of old.

I probably need to buy a new drive belt and unbox the vinyl first

Do they do Blus turntables and RockNRo ones too?

I knew hi-fi buffs could be very particular, but I didn't realise turntables dedicated to music genres existed!

They do a 78 model for those rare Big Bill Broonzy mercury 10' discs but it will also play classical and jazz 78's
