How about your better halves? Any such 'compliments'?

LOL, that's the best description of a Panerai I've heard yet.

My wife stole my Rolex GMTC. Does she like it really, no Ida, does she look after it, No. All she cares about is the fact it is a Rolex and people notice it on her wrists and comment how good it looks on her. No appreciation for watches though, just what others think, where as I don’t care what others think as long as I like it.

My wife is pretty supportive but doesn't really understand my desire for "really expensive" watches, she's happy though that they hold some value as opposed to all the other stuff I buy, TV's and other tech that's pretty much worthless in five years time!

My partner has more watches than me; Rolex Oyster Perpetual....olive green dial. Nomos Tangente, grey dial. Cartier Tank Solo, pink dial with pink strap (honest!!). Seventies Zenith, silver dial. Oblong gold Zenith.
She's supportive of my hobby, although I think she has her eye on my Daytona. They can look really good on a woman.

My wife tolerates it with good humour, she calls it my porn. She has fallen in for a few watches herself that I have Come across (see what I did there!), most of which she loves. Zenith concerto, tissot le locle, edox Royal lady, vintage mid sized seamaster (which she kind of helped herself to) and a couple of vintage pierce and GP cocktail watches.
She bought me a watch as a wedding gift, glycine combat sub golden eye, which I picked out. And paid for.
She's not too keen on the idea of me spending more than 1k on a watch though

My wife just tuts. That's not exclusive to watches either. She does tend to like the really odd stuff (Marine Chronometer for example).

It took 17 years for me to restore my Healey, it was finally finished the night before my wedding. On leaving the venue with my new wife a couple of mornings later she turned to me and shouted over the side exhaust 'now the Healey's finished you can sell it and we can have a kitchen extension'.

The moral of this particular story is a recommendation that you fit a very loud exhaust to your car. It means my wife doesn't like going in it (well, plus the lack of seatbelts or safety devices) and if she does I can't hear what she's telling me and she can't hear me being rude.

    Missus: "Another one!"
    Me: "Don't worry it's just a cheapy"
Missus: "Yeah cheapy for you probably means £700!".
    Me: "Err yes..."

    Today :)
I'm sure I'm not the only one that's had that discussion...

    Panerai incoming :)

General concensus of female tolerance it seems apart from the hypnotists among us who have convinced their wives it's a good idea to have lots of watches 😊. Wish I could do that!

There's something rather attractive about a woman wearing a mans sports watch, or is that just me?

    Wives and watches

Most wives will take an interest in what you buy. Also good to keep a record of husbands expensive trinkets for when the divorce lawyer is required!

I was floating the idea of trying to buy the Panerai Due on SC yesterday to be met with an eye roll tut combo. Tried showing her the photos at which point she took my phone to ensure I hadn’t messaged the seller!

Mine thinks I’m nuts for spending so much. However, I noticed she had a soft spot for Rolex, so I took her to our local AD and asked her to pick out her favourite.
Now she’s happy wearing her favourite Rolex (she chose an Oyster Perpetual) I don’t get much grief.

I feel there's the need for a bit of a clarification... My wife is actually surprisingly supportive of my disease hobby. She has the occasional eye-roll and the 'don't you have another like this', but that's about it, she lets me buy whatever I want. Recently though she came up with the proposal to make a payment in the family's fund for each new watch I buy. Sort of a socialist tax on luxury items :)) She might be onto something there. But anyway, I'm digressing.

What's not so nice is her being being very explicit about what she dislikes. Such as: 'this one looks like it's feeling sick' (think it was some colour happy dial), 'this one looks like an accountant watch' (apologies to all accountants), 'Seikos and Rolexes are boring watches' (apologies to 99% of the forum members). Briefly, she's not protesting about me buying watches... she just enjoys making some nasty judgements! :D

Apparently though her description of the Panerai has met some approval:

I'm very disappointed in you fellows. What with common front, etc?

Anyway. She likes my 2254 and my Navitimer, so I got that going for me.

    Cheers,
    Christian

My wife has no real interest in watches although she owns 7. This comes in handy to counteract the occasional “how many have you got?” questions. She recently thought I had “spent far too much” on the watch I bought my godson for his 21st - the watch in question was an Orient Bambino! She has no idea how much I’ve spent and has never asked. Let’s keep it that way...!

My partner has a habit of betting with me on how long it will be before I buy/sell another watch. She usually wins, and I have to pay....£50 a go. Getting expensive.

My wife is tolerant but occasionally counts my watches and "encourages" me to sell a couple.

Wife is pretty tired of it all now. Just lets me get on with it.

I did manage to get her on to a Seiko for herself. She really likes it. Much better than the thing she got off a rotating display in Debenhams.
