I can copy this and post it on edge matters, an UK knife collector's forum, if you like?

That would be really helpful as I'm not on any knife fora. Thanks.

That forum seems to have gone off on a bit of a tangent with J Wilkinson. Last night I got as far as W Wilkinson & Son, as per:

...an image from this link. It may be this W Wilkinson, but there may be others.

'Ivorine' is new to me (I'd tried 'ivory' and 'bone') and it may help to search on 'clip point' (link1, link2) as well as 'Bowie'.

I think Ivorine was a type of plastic that was supposed to look like ivory.

That is indeed the idea, just as faux bone was developed and used for household cutlery...see this article: Identifying Ivory and Bone. I would caution against the 'hot pin' test described in that article as, if the material is celluloid, you may have a problem, see link.

Lots of interesting links and comments, thanks. Just spoke with the owner and he says he did a hot pin test and its ivory.
    Couple more pics.

I have a copy of Bowie Knife: Unsheathing an American Legend by Norm Flayderman but it's currently packed for our move on Wednesday. An excellent resource for information on older Bowie knives. I'll have a look when we get unpacked if you have no joy. There used to be a chap called Owdtom on British Blades forum who would be the man to ask but not sure if anyone can get in touch with him anymore.

Thanks to some superb sleuthing on the Edgematters forum the mystery of the knife seems to have been resolved so many thanks to them and all input from this side is greatly appreciated. I didnt buy the knife as the seller wanted quite a bit more than it was valued at, nonetheless its been an interesting and enjoyable saga.

I have a copy of Geoffrey Tweedale's Sheffield knives and the name isn't mentioned in there

The blade pattern was made by many Sheffield cutlers though with scales of different materials, I had one with an antler handle pinned in the same way as the OP's, I think I traded it for something, Still have three but they only say Sheffield, England so it appears that the makers either didn't like them enough to put their names on them or it may have been to avoid a copyright suit!!

    Sorry about the rubbish pics

It's a shame the British Blades forum was closed down, The owner got fed up with it from memory
