Sir Stirling and his Mille Miglia-winning SLR

A Dutch motoring website has this small article about Sir Stirling who has decided to get out of the limelight due to his age. He's now officially retiring.
    On his website this:

A message from Stirling's son: To all of his many friends and fans around the world, who use this website for regular updates, my father would like to announce that he will be closing it down.

Following his severe infections at the end of 2016 and his subsequent slow and arduous recovery, the decision has been made that, at the age of 88, the indefatigable man will finally retire, so that he and my mother can have some much deserved rest and spend more time with each other and the rest of the family.

The entire and extended Moss clan thank everyone for all their love and support over the years and we wish you all a happy and prosperous 2018.

    As a tribute this:

The old boy has been noticeably absent the last couple of years, I had wondered.

    Enjoy your retirement champ.

Wonderful film - thanks. I have good memories SSM - a dinner at the RAC a few years ago in particular. Great man.

Indeed, a fantastic film celebrating a brilliant man... He's been missed at the Goodwood meetings the last year of so, but I hope he enjoys his retirement and gets back to full health

I found it interesting what he thought of the car even now.

Wasn't this the same Merc purchased by Chris Evans for a cool £18m a few years ago?

My mistake. It was Fanigo's W196.

Do people call him "Sterling" as a joke or something?

I see it all the time, but it's even spelt correctly on the bloody video!

Cheers, although it was a serious question - I've seen it spelt Sterling about 5 times in the last couple of weeks and was starting to think I was missing something!

This is a really fascinating read about the 1955 Mille Miglia - https://www.motorsportmagazine.com/a...s-mille-miglia

Written by his co-driver Chris Jenkinson.
