    Seiko Padi

Having seen a fair selection of the Seiko Padi watches I have ended up with the SUN065 as my daily watch for work at the moment- especially handy with the GMT as family in a different time zone currently.

It is a big chunky watch but feels indestructible, and I regularly take it as deep as about 5 ft in the ocean !

Latest in the Padi line is the 62MAS Padi.

Really rather like this with the graduated blue dial and red accents.

I like the SUNxxx line and have had a few. They are really nicely finished and the depth and relief of the dial looks great. I just wish it was maybe 20% smaller and lighter. A Ti version would be great.

I agree entirely. I had the SUN021, it was just too big for me to wear for any activity, having that much weight and size swinging around on my wrist was silly.
Using that GMT kinetic movment in a reasonable sized diver with a sensible bezel (NOT a compass - waste of time) is a real hole in the Seiko range, one that would be the perfect traveller/holiday watch.

I like the colour scheme of these PADI editions (I owned the SNE435 solar diver for a while), but I hate all the extra clutter the PADI branding brings to the dial... Really puts me off, and I think makes them less attractive to Seiko die-hards.

The SUN series is a lovely departure from the standard diver fayre, but way too big a modern looking for me to carry off... Though I really have a soft spot for the kinetic movement, they are always massive watches (I presume they need room for a large rotor to be able to 'wind' the electrical motor).

Nice clear picture of the dial on that Fratello link - graduated and wavy, and a sapphire crystal - looks like a good combination to me.

Really liking the PADI edition of this - any stockists? I wonder if Creation will get a bulk order in?

Like that 62MAS Padi version, a bit expensive though. Hopefully it'll be available at discount somewhere...

I've not had one, although I've been tempted several times. But at 16mm (?) high it's not feasible. The movement is fantastic and I'd love to see Seiko place it into either a sensibly sized diver as Sweets says, or even better, a dedicated GMT. That Blue 62MAS PADI is I think, the best looking PADI version out at the moment.

That looks stunning, easily the best of the Padi variants for my taste.

Its funny how in that image there are no red markers on the minute track for the cardinal points yet they are there in other images? also the rendered image (in post#1),looks like the minute marker at 12 is ever so slightly misaligned.. I wish Seiko could get a handle on their QC on a lot of their divers..

Love it. But that (just so wrong imho) hour hand drives me nuts: has anyone modded the hands yet?
Apologies if anyone has posted anything but I've missed it if they have.

yeah - you can get 62MAS 'type' hands for it !

got to say though (I have got the 53blue version), the stock hands do actually suit it quite well - makes it very visible /legible..

Wow, thanks for that link, looks like Seiko modding is still going strong, one of the things that make them so cool I reckon.

That's not a bad price really - and says free worldwide shipping.. So with 20% added I make that roughly 665 - about what my blue 053 cost from Iguana Sell in Spain..
I'm tempted to get this Padi version, only snag is I also want the 62 MAS re issue now! and a real mint one went on SC the other day for 2.4k :(

I was tempted by that one on SC but tbh something about the 62MAS re-issue leaves me a bit cold especially at the amount of money they cost. The SBDC053 and this PADI (055) version really tick the boxes for me and at a much more reasonable cost, especially with the sapphire glass and diashield etc on these. Love my SBDC053 and have ordered the PADI too now :-)

    pics of my 053:

I agree - great photos Thorien ! and good to read you have the ordered the PADI to go with it :)... must say I'm really pleased with the 053, its almost the only watch I have worn in two months, alternating it with my Spring Drive...

Just spotted that there is a green version as well now! ; http://forums.watchuseek.com/f21/sei...s-4630671.html

Still like that 62 MAS re issue though and keep returning to this thread for the pictures;http://forums.watchuseek.com/f21/sla...d-4402322.html

Thanks guys, yep that green I bet looks much better in real life than those pictures suggest. Limited edition too

The SLA017 is a decent looking watch and would have been a lot more popular at £1k less, I just think it's overpriced at rrp.

I wonder how many PADI watches are owned by professional diving instructors.

great photos from you again Thorien, but that lumeshot shows the dreaded chapter ring misalignment, looks like its a mm off to the left.. But that's when magnified and displayed on a monitor.. makes it a lot worse than with your own eyes etc.. real shame though about Seiko's qc because its good looking watch. Maybe it would be an easy fix?

Yep its slightly off and you're right they should do better with the qc as it's not a cheap watch. Having said that it doesn't bother me too much, it's not too bad to the eye and I believe I can get it aligned if I had a mind too.
