What a life and what a real star and a real gent to boot. And he gave us one of the most beautiful (possibly the most most beautiful) F1 car of all time.

    Go well!

R.I.P. Dan Gurney. Another one of The Greats from the best era of F1 departs.

Fond memories of the Eagle F1 too - first scratchbuilt slot car I cobbled together back in '66 was an Eagle Climax.

Shame to hear but I guess he had a wonderful life. Remember going to Brands in (I think!) '66 where he won the F1 race of Champions in the wonderful AAR Gurney/Weslake/Eagle, apparently the team were a bit strapped for cash and filled up with cheap Jet fuel prior to arriving at the circuit! Wonderful days. Cheers, John B4

If you have a flap named after you, then you've lived life well. RIP.

A real Star. He won the first F1 race I went to, the Race of Champions at Brands Hatch in 1967, and the Eagle F1 really was a thing of beauty
which got me hooked on motor racing and F1 in particular.

Yes, Gurney was an all-star in every sense of the word.

    A sobering thought ....

I was pondering on my earlier statement. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in terms of 'Greats' from that era (being the first couple of years of the 3 litre F1 seasons) that only leaves Sir Jackie Stewart and Jackie Ickx from the '66 and '67 driver line up, who are still with us.

OK, so there were a few also rans, who never won a Grand Prix, like Chris Irwin, but he's a virtually forgotten recluse.

.........also designed the Gurney `Alligator` motorbicycle.
Not quite a full-on FF but interesting nontheless.

I sat on the Alligator when Dan brought it to Goodwood.
