GP don’t seem to have been getting any press but this new panda dialed Laureato looks rather tasty. Available in both 42mm and 38mm which should keep everyone happy for a change. Makes a change from the usual Daytona...

Agreed, far too derivative (Vulgari Otto more so).
Derivative of the original GP Laureato from 1975 you mean? ;-) While it’s obvious which watches it’s competing against it does actually have its own history (see here). While I’m not 100% sold on the Laureato, the panda style really lifts it. The fit is also excellent as they produce a range of sizes, and they deserve credit for that - in contrast to AP who charge a huge premium for the one that’s the right size. On price, there are good deals to be had.
Think the influence back in the ‘70s was clear...
True... Though the version in those days was more distinct if anything, and quartz too. The head has moved further towards the RO since then, while the bracelet has moved towards the Nautilus. Nonetheless, at least it has some claim to its own history and identity.
The same applies to the VC222 and later Overseas line of course, and they all owe a lot (the RO included) to the earlier Rolex Texan, also Genta designed. So the GP is a touch homagey perhaps, but I’d give it the benefit of the doubt. More affordable competitors to AP, PP and VC are welcome in the end.
*wish they’d change the date font though, far too fussy

More info and a video of the Laureato Chrono and ceramic with optional rubber strap here. These versions really seem to suit the watch, it’s definitely growing on me. A sleeper hit of the show?

Some images of a crazy new Radiomir have turned up on another forum: https://www.rolexforums.com/showpost...77&postcount=9
I don't know whether the images are real or fake, or what size the watches would be if they're real, but I like them!

I think the GP and AP models were launched broadly at the same time, so I am not sure who came first. Back in the day this was the design some brands were playing with, the Genta era, unsure who was first. I am going to have to look into it now - damm!
