Thread: Average wrist size

  1. #1

    Average wrist size

I got thinking about what is an average wrist size. I am 6’2” and always considered my wrists to be skinny. I measured them today for the 1st time and found out I have a 7 inch wrist so maybe it isn’t as skinny as I thought.
What is considered skinny, average and large? I have created a poll to find the tz-uk average.

    I'm 6.75. I'd say 7-7.25 is average. PS I'm 6 feet exactly.

    But what about your wrist?

  5. #5
Measurement across the wrist more important than circumference.

Are these figures actually measured, or best guess?

My watch wrist is currently 7.75 (just measured). It can go as thin as 7.5, or as fat as 8; all dependent on how much I weigh and how much I train in the gym.

5’11” height, 7” wrist. Your poll options are sexist though!

5'10", square-shaped 6.75" wrists. Best suited to vintage Omegas

I've started a poll on how many wrist size polls one can participate in before losing the will to live.

Actually that's not true, my poll asks, do you wear your watch closer to the point of your elbow than to the tip of your fingers? (I do)

Yeah, but that's 'cause of your freakishly long fingers..... ;-)

    5'10/11" and 95kgs (15-20kg over optimum)
    8.25-8.5" wrist
Your poll doesn't quite go high enough.
Big boned is the polite way of putting it I believe.

5 foot 8, weigh 82kgs and wrist is 7.25 inches.

  21. #21
    5'9" and 7.5 inch wrists.

Weight fluctuates a bit (or more than a bit!!), but never noticed any discernible difference in wrist circumference.

No option in the poll for me

8.5" normally but can be up to 8.75" if my wrist swells.

7.25", but I always tell dealers like Watchfinder to size the bracelet to 7.5" and that usually gives you a bit of slack or a spare link etc.

Hang on - no mention of height or weight on the vote - you’ll be wanting inside leg and neck measurements to correlate surely?

looking at results so far the wrist sizes seem to fit a distribution (it’s a bit squewed toward higher values) with

    mean value of 6.75 and
    std dev of 0.4

    (just an eye ball estimate)

Cool - I always thought my wrists were very small (girly cyclist wrists), but so far I'm 'the majority' :-)

Strange distribution. Would be pretty normal, save the spike at 6.75.

As someone else said I think that wrist width is more important that circumference when assessing watch sizes. Round wrists v flat makes a huge difference

Generally when it's very warm my wrist swells, also have a funky thyroid which can cause swelling.
