WINNERS ANNOUNCED - Charity Raffle for Suicide Prevention & Cancer Support

Win a Timefactors Precista Royal Navy Diver PRS-82, Seagull 1963 chronograph, plus bespoke Martu straps!

The 6th of January 2018 marks the first anniversary of the end of Laura’s cancer treatment. Most of you are aware of our efforts to raise funds for the charities that supported us through those difficult times. As we go into the new year we feel that it is time to make a slight change in our approach to the charities that we support. As well as one of 'Laura’s Charities' we will be raising funds in parallel for another deserving cause not necessarily connected to childhood cancer.

In this case we are be raising funds for these two charities:

The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is dedicated to preventing male suicide. Like cancer, most people have been touched in some way by the tragedy of a suicide. It is the single biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK. We lost our close friend Ian in January four years ago and we remember him fondly. CALM works to promote culture change so that any man considering suicide feels able to seek help, campaigns for better understanding of suicide and prevention, and supports those bereaved or affected by suicide.

CLIC Sargent who provided us with immense practical and emotional support. Laura’s CLIC nurse built an incredible bond with her and restored Laura’s confidence in chemotherapy after a major setback. The value of her support at a time when Laura’s weight had dropped to a life-threatening level is immeasurable. She will be retiring this year and we will never be able to really thank her adequately but this is one way that we can express our gratitude.

    The Prizes

    1. Precista Royal Navy Diver PRS-82
    2. Seagull 1963 38mm chronograph donated by JackW
    3. A made to measure Alligator watch strap from Andrea at Martú.
    4. A made to measure Tweed watch strap from Andrea at Martú.
    5. A made to measure Calf watch strap from Andrea at Martú.

Many thanks to Carlton-Browne for making arrangements with Andrea and, of course, for the tweed.

    The Raffle

To take part, please post in this thread and donate [a voluntary*] £5 per entry to https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Som...ary_is_special

Feel free to take part multiple times and if you are not interested in the prizes, you are welcome to donate anyway!

Please include your TZ-UK user name in the comments if it's not obvious.

As usual, I’ll maintain a list of the participants here and will let this run for a fortnight. Laura will personally draw the winner and runners-up on Sunday 21 January when she returns to the UK for her next check-up.

    Prize Details

The winner will receive my Precista Royal Navy Diver PRS-82, number 232. The watch needs little introduction. Full specifications may be found in the links.

Precista Royal Navy Diver PRS-82, 40mm with the original ETA 2783 25 jewel automatic and hacking movement. These currently retail at £425.00 and are still available from Timefactors. http://www.timefactors.com/precistaprs82.htm

I have owned the watch from new, purchased on 30 June 2014. It has been worn very sparingly, is in excellent condition and I’ve experienced no issues. The (expired) warranty card and instructions are present. This has the original unworn silicone rubber strap with signed buckle and I’ll include the monkeyswag NATO in the photographs. The winner’s watch will be sent in a nice dual watch travel case. Postage will be covered to anywhere in the world.

JackW has very generously donated a classic Seagull 1963 chronograph as a second prize. He will send the watch directly to the winner.

Seagull 1963 Chronograph 37.5mm with ST1901 hand winding movement. In very good condition, it sets and runs fine and it comes with the extra solid caseback, a leather rally strap (not the one in the pictures), a khaki NATO, tin and papers.

    Martú Straps

Via Carlton-Browne, Andrea Tugas of Martú has offered three made-to-measure watch straps as below:

1 x Alligator: Can be black or brown.

1 x Tweed: Can be light grey herringbone, mid grey salt & pepper or dark green houndstooth.

1 x Calf: Can be any strap on my store or even a cork strap if you like.

Examples of Andrea’s superb work can be seen here:
    http://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.ph...ed-straps-here
    https://www.martuleather.com

C-B will contact each winner to arrange comms with Andrea.

Many thanks to Hidde, Andrea and Alan, and in advance to everyone who I'm sure will make this another great success.

No point having more than three goes if there are only three prizes.

Fabulous gesture, the generosity of TZers is amazing, I tend not to have much luck in raffles but happy to chuck in two tickets.

    PRS-82 Updated Photographs and Information

I have taken some slightly better photographs of the PRS-82 as the lighting wasn't great when I took the earlier ones. It catches the sunlight beautifully and really is in superb condition. I also remembered that there has always been a clear caseback sticker in place to protect from 'NATO rash'.

I was under the mistaken impression that only the first 200 watches had the original ETA 2783 movement, however I’ve found a post by Eddie from September 2016 stating that it was 500. I’ve amended the description in the opening post and apologies for any confusion. http://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.ph...=1#post4097263

    PRS-82 Timekeeping

I set the watch precisely on Thursday evening and have kept it well wound since. Apart from when I have been moving it to spin the rotor It has been resting about equally either on the caseback or crown up. I've checked the timekeeping this morning after about 60 hours and it has gained just three seconds.

And I neglected to mention one of the most important accessories! Of course it will come with a Timefactors microfibre cleaning cloth.

Many thanks for the support. There's almost exactly a week still to run so plenty of time for a few more participants to sign up

Great causes worthy of support. I'm a bit miffed the coin toss didn't go my way, but I never win anything on these anyway.

Six tickets for me please Matthew.

Given my comment above, I think that there's a fair chance of you having the opportunity to not win the other watch at a later date

Thanks for the kind comments, I really wish that I had prizes for everybody! Every participant can be assured that by supporting this you have helped two lifesaving organisations continue their immensely valuable work.

We also hope that we have raised a bit of awareness of the support available from CALM. There are some others such as Papyrus, Maytree and Samaritans. Please continue to spread the word.

    Matthew,

The work you and your family continue to do to raise money for these incredibly valuable organisations is wonderful. I'm truly happy to have made a small contribution to each of the last few and feel incredibly lucky to have now won something twice. Each time I've entered because I support the causes - not for the prizes.

Just checked the online total and the total this little watch forum has raised is brilliant.

Anyway, if you ever organise another please give me a nudge. I think it's time I did more than buy a few tickets, I'd like to contribute a prize or two.

    Calvin

We lost Ian four years ago today, four days before his 47th birthday. It was a terrible shock. Sadly nobody close to him had any real idea of his state of mind, but it doesn't stop you from questioning whether there was something that you could or should have done to make things turn out differently. I had been chatting with him two days earlier and he had been his usual outwardly jovial self, laughing and cracking jokes.

A few days later his friends started to receive gifts of his personal belongings in the post. Some treasured 'Q' magazine special editions turned up on my desk along with British chocolate themed fridge magnets for the children. It was heartbreaking, but I also got incredibly annoyed with him for not sharing his true feelings or asking for help.

As well as promoting the principle that it is not weak to be open about your feelings, and offering people like Ian a place to turn to for support and understanding, CALM provides a number of very useful resources for those dealing with emotions such as shock, disbelief, sadness, guilt, anger and depression.

I've just turned my phone on after a flight home and I'm back up there on Cloud Nine having seen the current total. Fabulous response, thanks.

Greetings Mr Curta. Please put me down for 5 (currently overseas so will make payment ASAP but may not be for a while). Very generous of you all.

CALM is a superb charity. I’m friends with one of the guys who set up the CALM photography movement and I attended the Getty Gallery exhibition in 2017. Great stuff.

    One More Day

Laura will make the draw in roughly 24 hours, supervised by Alison. I'll close the raffle for entries at 3pm UK time on Sunday. They have just touched down at Heathrow and are once again experiencing the joys of transferring between Terminal 2 to Terminal 5.

Laura will draw the winning tickets in reverse order to the prize list below. The first ticket out will be for the Martú calf strap with the fifth and final ticket being for the PRS-82.

    The Prizes

    1. Precista Royal Navy Diver PRS-82
    2. Seagull 1963 38mm chronograph donated by JackW
    3. A made to measure Alligator watch strap from Andrea at Martú.
    4. A made to measure Tweed watch strap from Andrea at Martú.
    5. A made to measure Calf watch strap from Andrea at Martú.

And as it is Ian's birthday I shall be taking advantage of the peace and quiet to have a pleasant reminisce.

PRS-82 all boxed up and ready to travel to the UK tonight. Grandma has been dispatched to purchase a fresh book of raffle tickets ready for Laura to make the draw on Sunday afternoon. I'll hear the outcome shortly afterwards. There's still a couple of days left to participate before this closes!

I've just updated the list, many thanks again. No worries for those who have pledged support but have not been able to donate yet for various reasons, there's plenty of time.
