Thread: The John Steed watch quiz

    The John Steed watch quiz

Having recently drawn inspiration from Mr Steed for a new brolly, I then came across an interesting page about his watches here: http://www.johnsteedsflat.com/watches.html

Number 8 appears to have been discussed some years back, but other than that, how many can we identify ?

Is the one at 8 a Smiths?
    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

No doubt N° 8 is a Smiths. Some of the others look like Smiths' dials and handsets - especially with the red-tipped second hand, but the writing on the dial doesn't look like the word Smiths, so maybe Garrards.

I hadn’t thought of Garrard. Some of their watches look absolutely superb, and would seem appropriate to the character.

7 is definitely a Certina. NO model name on the dial, but definitely in their dress watch range.

Edit 6 is the same watch

13, 14, 15 appears to be the same watch. Lovely red arrow-tipped seconds. It’s infuriating insofar as in pic 13 the manufacture text would be clearly legible to those who knew what they were reading - in the same way that “jewels” and “automatic” are not inherently readable in that image, but are irrefutable once you know what you’re reading...

If I see an interesting watch on vintage shows I always freeze the screen but virtually all are incredibly difficult to place exactly.

Number 4 looks like that may be a Longines logo on the crown.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

I'd love to know what they are too.

    You could well be right.

I had a good look at the name on the watch but couldn't place it.

Imagine old Steed wearing a cheapy Ingersoll!
    Cheers,
    Neil.

Indeed - the original dollar watch.

    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

In season 6, the episode entitled Murdersville features a Breitling Navitimer as an important part of the plot.

Must have gone to the same strap fitter as Sean Connery.

Another scene from Murdersville, possibly belongs in the Dear Wife thread in the BP.

Anyone recognise number 10 (and maybe 11)?

It could be a gold-plated Soviet-made Sekonda. I have one that looks just like this.

I wouldn't have thought that Steed (or Patrick Macnee for that matter) would have worn a Sekonda but who knows...
