Thread: Velcro or NASA strap source?

  1. #1

    Velcro or NASA strap source?

I'm looking for a decent length strap for wearing over a jacket. GGB was my first port of call but the order book is closed so I Googled around and found an excellent NASA strap on ebay but it was £60 which is reasonable for something that has taken so much work but I just need a strap not a replica if that makes sense. I was wondering if anyone knew of an alternative resource?

I've seen this topic get derision in the past so I don't need that please.

    Cheers

    Ed

What about one of Eddies long zulus? Not Velcro but they should fit over a jacket.

Kizzi - Not cheap, and they are replicas, but pretty good IMO.

You could try Animal. My G10 is currently over my jacket (I’m trying to sort out the shed/garage) on a black Animal Velcro strap.
IIRC it cost about 8 quid at a local “surfwear” shop.
They are designed to go over wetsuits etc for water sports.

    Do you need 20mm?

That is my gasgas order arrived yesterday along with straps from CW and Germany.
I have a Velcro 20 mil for my Seiko diver haven’t had time to try it I’m not worried if you would like it?

Sorry for the very late reply, for some reason I am not getting notifications on my android.

Thank you very much for the kind offer but unfortunately this is a 22mm strap.

Great shout, thanks Dave! The first watch that I was proud of as a 11 year old was an Animal watch, memories...

Thanks but this was the fantastic replica I had discounted due to price. If I had a moonwatch I would get one though as they are great.

Why not just use 2 NATO straps buckled end to end? Then unbuckle the second strap when you just want to wear the watch over your wrist - it works over a drysuit.

TBH, the NASA type telco straps are cheap and nasty regardless of who makes them - not worth the chase or the expense.

its not your average 10 GBP nato . Fit and finish is over the top on these Omega nato style straps and there is no comparison with "regular" nato straps

Absolutely. Worth $50 at the very least!

    But not 350.

That might well be true and I have no problem with the selling price, it's how much they're charging to post it that seems a bit salty.

There clearly is a comparison between like or similar straps. And they may well be better, the price though really is taking the Micky. I like a nice product but not at the cost of being ripped off.

Yeah fully agree Chris, the one i got with my moonwatch looks nasty, the nato looked and felt better than average though, i wonder if anyone has modified the Omega velcro to fit a wrist opposed to a space suit? Sorry if this has been mentioned on other threads it just came to mind

Why didn’t I think of that... I tend to buckle my dive watch to a d ring (computer on wrist), but it’s not simple to check.

Well, the Ebay seller is based in the USA, so £12 doesn't seem that greedy...

I just bought a "luxury" 5 ring Zulu from a watch shop in the States. $5 (about £3.60) Tracked postage. I doubt that the 12" strap weighs so much more that it triples the postage. Seems greedy to me.
