Don't they have the exact reference model number etched somewhere on the box ?
Can anyone tell me what would be the correct box for a 1997 Rolex Sub?
Many thanks
Sean

68.00.01 or 68.00.71 will work, but it seems to vary with where the watch was purchased.
Whoever does not know how to hit the nail on the head should be asked not to hit it at all.

No.
For some years and in some territories one might have found a sticker bearing the model reference at one end of the outer box (with or without a separate, round sticker denoting the watch’s dial colour).
Ultimately one was always in the hands of the sales assistant who was supposed to match the correct papers and box etc with the right watch. Regrettably, this often went wrong and Giddy Gal / Eager Edgar would furnish the buyer with the wrong ones.

Many thanks everyone.
My search for a 1997 Sub for my sons 21st is almost complete, now all I need is the box to put it in!
What a fantastic birthday present & something he will surely treasure for many many years.
Happy box hunting
Is it a 16610 date or 14060 nondate?
While not a father to son gift, I once gave my brother a rather nice watch for christmas. The instant he found that it needed winding each day it went straight in a drawer never to be looked at again, and replaced with a £4.99 generic gold quartz off amazon. From experience I also don't see the logic in giving a young lad something so expensive, at that age it just seems to create negative feelings from others (be it jealousy, or that the guy is just a trustfund abby etc) rather than respect or soemthing.
Plus I personally think that sentimental attachment occurs more with low value items than high, simply because there isn't a potential pay day to override any sentimental attachment.
