Sensible enough: they certainly have a sustained and wide enough following but avoid the Jubilee bracelet.

    Haywood,

Thank you! Just when I was starting to doubt my decision.

Not to keen on the jubilee so would be looking for either head only or the plain bracelet.

do you see them quite frequently?

I see 16713s infrequently in either permutation.

I would say that at least three with black trim were sold for every one with brown and gold.

Great watch. I am wearing my old 16753 Nipple Dial Rootbeer as we speak.

No need for therapy and they're definitely toned down off the bracelets. Good choice imo.

Rolex GMT-Master II Root Beer 16713

I love my 16753 root beer (on jubilee). You are definitely not losing the plot at far as I’m concerned!

Hate the look, and hate even more - the rinkydink "root beer" nickname.

Blue/red combination, although more common - is the one.

With Jubilee it’s vomtastic, but on a nice strap I can certainly see the appeal.

I wear mine on a Oyster.

Jubilees are prone to wear and therefore can get slack, although still perfectly wearable.

As for thinking Huggy Bear - why not think Clint Eastwood, especially as he wore his root beer on a Jubilee.

Or if you prefer it on leather then it's an Elio De Angelis. After the F1 driver https://www.google.co.uk/search?rlz=...GJnNGvb_TSEuM:

The small, gold D-shape links in the middle of the 16713’s Jubilee 62523 bracelet allow for greater movement and are weaker than the solid, single brick link of an Oysterlock 78793.

The head diameter of all professional models like the GMT is such that any lateral movement applied thereto creates enormous forces of torque which transfer most deleteriously to the ends of the bracelet.

Where that bracelet is a Jubilee, metal is more quickly distorted and worn than where it is an Oyster.

It’s the only two tone sport I like. They brown suits the gold.

Personally I'd love one. Think they are stunning. But IMO I'd need to see more sun to wear one!

I had one for almost a year. Loved it, but wore it only a day a week, and the gold does scuff easily, so in the end I sold it, which I sometimes regret... You have to try it though it's a watch like no other, and the only watch strangers have commented on positively that I've had.

I also had the Ruby/diamond serti dial in it for a while, that's eyecandy.... I still have the dial, in case I ever fall into a barrel of money and buy the 16718, which would be the next step....

I wouldn't be so afraid of the Jubilee though, if you find one that is in very good condition. If you wear it not too loose, it does not wear down any faster than the Oyster.... Its not the gold that wears off its the steel pins inside the gold links.

I definitely see distortion and wear to the gold parts and I would maintain from experience that the Jubilee wears worse and faster than the Oyster.

That dial though.....yes please! Really something a bit special, that. Members would probably appreciate a picture, as I suspect many will never have seen one. Pretty please.

It will have to be a stolen one since photobucket no longer works and I havent been bothered to look for a new image host... any tips?

I service old 6917s and 69173s every week it seems and even though 30+ years old, the jubilees don't wear through and fall off, its always the clasp that fails first for some reason... the little pin that holds it or the riveted pin in the actual shield. They aren't as sensitive to "twisting" as the oysters are, maybe that's why. The jubilees are now horribly expensive to replace, btw.... even with smelting value taken off.

In either case, if you keep a jubilee clean and wear it tight, it will last as long as any of us.... :)

Love that dial and it is very rare indeed, thankyou for illustrating.

Try imgur for your image hosting. It is free and I have found very effective. There are a couple of tools you can use to download all your pics from Photobucket, put them in one folder then upload them to imgur.

Your experience of Jubilees is happier than mine. I handle a few hundred 62523H / 62523D every year and I do see failures as described. Perhaps they take them off before a fight where you live!

To be fair its mostly old ladies and doctor types... they always talk about how they play golf with their watches.... :D No wonder they wear out and half the movement is in tatters.

    Will try imgur, thanks!
