UPDATED - I Found something! -Vintage Carrera style watch options

I’ve been thinking about trying one, but, very open to various options within a reasonable budget

I’m more in to the style than the brand, so, happy to look for alternatives, but, want the clean style you’d get from an Heuer

Zodiac, Tradition, Tressa are the options at the more affordable end of the scale…. What else might I consider is my question?

Images of what I have in mind…. I like this clean simple 2 sub dial finish…

    Over to you TZ!

If you have something you think I might like I’m also open to a PM!

Anybody got any suggestions? I wasn’t expecting a flood of responses, but, throught a couple of vintage enthusiasts may have some pointers

To be clear.... any other brands I could look at which give that 36mm clean bi compax finish?

I'll be sticking one on SC in the next few days.

Didn’t Breitling do something like this?
An old vintage transocean or something?
Perhaps someone will know what I mean and have pics or a link?

Brietling top time I think - very nice option!

About the same price as an Heuer though...!

There's plenty of "no name" valjoux 7733/7734 or similar powered vintage pieces around if the brand in unimportant.

There was a cheaper “no name” chrome plated Heuer on SC a while back. Don’t believe that it sold. It was under 2k from memory.

    This!

There's loads of these generic old valjoux chrono's about, unfortunately they've had a big hike in the last couple of years getting dragged up with their name wearing brothers.

This type isn't really the sort to buy in Breitling or Heuer as you'll be paying £1500-£???? extra just for the Breitling print and possibly a signed balance cock. Much better value to be had with the same watch with no branding or alternative branding.

I was looking for one a while back as I love the style too. I actually won one on eBay which had a nice sunburst blue dial and the seconds hand had a frame on the end which framed the date as it swept past. I actually won it for a good price at auction (you'll find dozens of these well overpriced sat there from'dealers' trying it on) and after a couple of weeks of nothing showing I emailed the seller and without any hesitation he messaged me back saying it must be lost in the post and refunded me at the same time! Obviously wasn't happy with the price!

Indeed, I picked this 7734 up recently at a watch fair very cheaply, it was a non runner but a very simple fix, regulated by Steve Burrage and is a great looking thing.

    Cheers..

“No name” - is that literally no name or alternative name?

There are so many brands doing Valjoux 7733 or 7730, I was trying to narrow my search down a little I guess...

It’s so irritating when people renege on eBay deals, I’ve won some and I’ve lost some selling on eBay... loads of people obviously sniping their own sales to bump prices... You just have tole role with it I guess.

Very nice Jason... I know Steve very well... surprised we haven’t bumped into one and other outside his house before now!

Very irritating. I've sold a couple of watches on eBay that have gone for silly cheap prices and both times I messaged the buyer to congratulate them on getting a bargain... when I get the deals the sellers back out! Aside from the one I mentioned above, one guy actually messaged me after I won an auction for an old Omega (listed badly with terrible pics) to say he couldn't find the watch!

It took me nearly a year, but, after a few false starts, a lot of research and much patience I just got this…. I’m very pleased…. I want to get a nice vintage brown strap on which to put it

    35mm

    Freshly serviced Landeron 248 movement

Mintier than a freshly made mint on st mints day

I’m well pleased…. Also a fraction of the price of a Heuer Carrera!

Does anybody know anything about the brand?

What are the markings on the back? Military?

Wolfie, this looks a cracker. Congratulations. Nice to see a lesser-known brand on here.

    Very nice, I like that.

I too missed the boat with Carreras and like a fool I sold my three sub dial reverse panda Hamilton (essentially a Heuer Carrera with a different name on the dial) a few years back for £750 or so. Yes, yes, I know. I found this on eBay two or three years ago and hopefully .olli. will sort it out for me later on this year (or more likely, next year, I know he's excellent at what he does but please will you all stop sending watches to him?):

I have an 18mm beads of rice bracelet ready to fit but was just given some leather from a very special source and am planning on having a few rally straps made from it, one of which will go perfect on here...

Yep…. There’s a whole world of watches out there and it’s fun to learn about something other than the more prominent brands as they often have a lot to offer...

Oof…. I suspect there are many tales on here about watches you shouldn’t have parted with, but, that sounds harsh!!!!

Love that watch…. I’m sure I’ve seen something very similar under different branding? If you have too much leather knocking about and can squeeze out another rally strap…. I’m your man :-)

    Thank you

They come every now and then in various conditions…. Expect to pay £350-£450 dependant on condition…. Better than £2.5k!!!

Look at Zodiac, Tradition, Oriossa and Tressa for similar styles…
